Dayyán
The great Dayyan (), often referred to as Dayyán, was a Bábí follower, a religion founded by the Báb in Persia in 1844. The Báb wrote numerous tablets of praise to Dayyán recognising his devotion to the new religion. In the days before his execution, the Báb asked that Dayyán be the custodian of his work, keeping his writings safe. Among the Bábí teachings was the appearance of a messianic figure, termed He whom God shall make manifest. After the Báb's death, Dayyán was the third person to recognize "He whom God shall make manifest", in the person of Baháʼu'lláh. Dayyán was murdered for refuting the claims of successor-ship made by Mirza Yahya. Miller, an American missionary to Persia, wrote that Baha was not the only one who at this time was prepared to make a claim for himself, for a man named Mirza Asadullah-i-Khuy surnamed Dayyán, who had been appointed by the Báb as amanuensis to Subh-i-Azal, declared that he was He whom God shall make manifest, and dem ...

Dayan Deerh
Dayan Deerh or Dayan Degereki is one of the most important divinities in the folk practices and shamanic invocations in Khövsgöl Province, Mongolia. His cult is linked to fertility rites which are practiced in yellow shamanism (which incorporates Buddhist ritual and belief) as well as in black shamanism (a less Buddhist-influenced type of shamanism). He is still venerated, especially on the eastern side of Lake Khövsgöl. Origin and cult Dayan Deerh is worshiped in both yellow shamanism and the less Buddhism-influenced black shamanism, though black shamans around Khövsgöl Nuur often do not accept him since he is popular among the yellow shamans. One explanation is that Dayan Deerh would have betrayed the black shamans by going over to the Buddhist side. Agnes Birtalan proposed that he began his career as a fertility god, then became a spirit particularly for shamans, and ended up as a protector. As a fertility god, he granted cattle and children to people, and was a shaman ...

Dayan (witch)
Daayan, Ḍāin or Ḍāini is often mistakenly regarded as a rendering for a witch in Indian folklore and Pakistani folklore, the term has been derived from the Sanskrit word ''dakini'', which refers to a female paranormal entity from ''patala'' (the netherworld). ''Dakinis'' have been described in medieval Hindu texts such as the Bhagavata Purana, Brahma Purana, Markandeya Purana and Kathasaritsagara as female fiendish spirits in the train of Kali who feed on human flesh. Daayans are comparable to malevolent female spirits such as the succubi of Western folklore, they also resemble vampiresses by their alleged feeding behaviours that requires the blood or life-force of their victims. It is also said that powerful and older ''daayan'' is also referred to as ''ekayan''. The primary source of a daayan's power is her unusually long braids (''choti'') that is used as an additional limb, it can be flexed, stretched retracted and regenerated to do whatever the ''daayan'' pleases ...
