David Yip
David Nicholas Yip ( zh, t=葉西園, p=Yè Xīyuán; born 4 June 1951) is a British actor and playwright. He gained prominence through his role in the BBC series '' The Chinese Detective'' (1981–1982) as the first Chinese lead on British television. His films include '' A View to a Kill'' (1985), '' Ping Pong'' (1986), and '' Break'' (2020). Yip wrote and starred in the play ''Gold Mountain''. On television, he appeared in the Channel 4 soap opera '' Brookside'' (1989–1990), the CBBC series '' Spirit Warriors'' (2010), and the Sky Atlantic thriller '' Fortitude'' (2017–2018). He is also known for his voice work. Yip has given talks and presented documentaries on the Chinese community in his hometown of Liverpool. ''It Ain't Half Hot Mum'' is a British television sitcom about a Royal Artillery concert party based in Deolali in British India and the fictional village of Tin Min in Burma, during the final months of the Second World War. Fifty-six episodes were broadcast across eight series on BBC1 between 1974 and 1981, covering a real-time historical period of approximately thirteen weeks. Each episode ran for thirty minutes. ''Whodunnit?'' is a British television game show that aired on ITV from 15 August 1972 to 26 June 1978. The show was devised by Jeremy Lloyd and Lance Percival and was originally aired as a pilot with Shaw Taylor as host. It then became a full show, with the first series being hosted by Edward Woodward and then Jon Pertwee took over hosting duties from the second series until the show's end. Format Each week it featured a short murder-mystery drama enacted in front of a panel of four celebrity guests who then had to establish who the murderer was. The Liverpool Playhouse is a theatre in Williamson Square in the city of Liverpool, England. It originated in 1866 as a music hall, and in 1911 developed into a repertory theatre. As such it nurtured the early careers of many actors and actresses, some of whom went on to achieve national and international reputations. Architectural changes have been made to the building over the years, the latest being in 1968 when a modern-style extension was added to the north of the theatre. Barry Albert Kyle (born 25 March 1947, in Bow, London) is an English theatre director, currently Honorary Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, England. Kyle attended Beal Grammar School in Ilford and then studied drama and English at the University of Birmingham. He began his theatre career in 1969 at the Liverpool Playhouse where he directed 21 productions. In 1973 he became an assistant director at the Royal Shakespeare Company where he directed in the studio theatre called The Other Place a production of ''Sylvia Plath a Dramatic Portrait'', his dramatisation of Sylvia Plath's poetry and life. This played at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. The Everyman Theatre stands at the north end of Hope Street in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. It was founded in 1964, in Hope Hall (once a chapel, then a cinema), in an area of Liverpool noted for its bohemian environment and political edge, and quickly built a reputation for ground-breaking work. The Everyman was completely rebuilt between 2011 and 2014. History The building was constructed as Hope Hall, a dissenters' chapel built in 1837. In 1841 it became a church dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist. This became a public concert hall in 1853. In 1912 the hall was turned into Hope Hall Cinema, which continued serving this purpose until it closed in 1963.
