David Hartman (rabbi)
David Hartman (; September 11, 1931 – February 10, 2013) was an American- Israeli leader and philosopher of contemporary Judaism, founder of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem, and a Jewish author. Biography David Hartman was born in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York. He attended Yeshiva Chaim Berlin and the Lubavitch Yeshiva, after which he spent time learning in Lakewood Yeshiva. In 1953, having studied under Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, he received his rabbinical ordination from Yeshiva University in New York. He continued his studies with Soloveitchik until 1960, while pursuing a graduate degree in philosophy with Robert C. Pollock at Fordham University. In 1971, Hartman immigrated to Israel with his wife Barbara and their five children. Hartman died on February 10, 2013, in Jerusalem at the age of 81. Joseph Ber Soloveitchik ( ''Yosef Dov ha-Levi Soloveychik''; February 27, 1903 – April 9, 1993) was a major United States, American Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox rabbi, Talmudist, and modern Jewish philosophy, Jewish philosopher. He was a scion of the Lithuanian Jews, Lithuanian Jewish Brisk yeshivas, Soloveitchik rabbinic dynasty. Hartman High School
Hartman High School (officially Charles E. Smith High School for Boys) is an Orthodox Jewish religious high school in Jerusalem. History The school, affiliated with the Shalom Hartman Institute, is located in Jerusalem's German Colony. It has a student population of 350 in grades 7-12. The principal of the High School is Shaul David, and the principal of the Middle School is Channan Zuker. Hartman describes its educational philosophy as a "dual embrace of tradition and tolerance." It is committed to the State of Israel, community action, and leadership in embracing differences. The school is considered pluralistic and liberal. Donniel Hartman (; born October 13, 1958) is an Israeli Modern Orthodox rabbi and author. He is President of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. Biography Hartman was born in New York to Barbara and David Hartman. When he was 13 years old, his family immigrated to Israel. He Studied at Yeshivat Netiv Meir and Yeshivat Har Etzion. Enlisted in the Armored Corps where he commanded a tank and fought in the First Lebanon War. Following the war, Hartman returned to the United States where he studied for a master's degree and served as a rabbi at a community center in New Jersey. He has a doctorate in Jewish philosophy from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a Master of Arts in political philosophy from New York University, and a Master of Arts in religion from Temple University.
