David Abraham Cheulkar
David Abraham Cheulkar (21 June 1908 – 2 January 1982), popularly known as David, was an Indian Hindi film actor. In a career spanning four decades, he played mostly character roles, starting with the 1941 film '' Naya Sansar'', and went on to act in over 110 films, including memorable films such as ''Gol Maal'' (1979), '' Baton Baton Mein'' (1979) and '' Boot Polish'' (1954), for which he was awarded the 1955 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. Early and personal life David Abraham Cheulkar was born in an Indo-Israeli family from Ashdod. He was raised by his older brothers as his father Abraham died when David was young. His mother Dinah, who had Marathi background, lived a long life, and died at the age of 104 years. He was a member of Mumbai's Marathi-speaking Bene Israel community. ''Boot Polish'' is a 1954 Indian Hindi-language comedy drama directed by Prakash Arora and produced by Raj Kapoor (who also ghost directed the film). It won Filmfare Best Movie Award, Best Film at the Filmfare Awards. The film has starcast Ratan Kumar, Kumari Naaz, Naaz, David Abraham Cheulkar, David in the lead roles. The 11th National Film Awards, then known as State Awards for Films, presented by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in 1963. Ceremony took place at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 25 April 1964 and awards were given by then President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. ''Shehar Aur Sapna'' () is a 1963 Hindi film directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, about a young couple searching in vain for a home of their own in a metropolis, amidst the backdrop of rapidly developing city, and the many who flocked to it in hope of a better life. It won the 1964 National Film Award for Best Feature Film and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Film. ''Pardesi'' (; ) is a 1957 film jointly directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and Vasili Pronin. It was made in two versions, Hindi and Russian, and is based on the travelogues of Russian traveller Afanasy Nikitin, called '' A Journey Beyond the Three Seas'', which is now considered a Russian literary monument. Made during the high time of Indo-Russian amity, ''Pardesi'' is an Indo-Soviet co-production between the state-owned Mosfilm and Khwaja Ahmad Abbas's Naya Sansar International production house. The film has music by Anil Biswas, and had some memorable hits such as ''Rasiya Re Man Basiya Re'', by Meena Kapoor, ''Na Dir Dim'', by Lata Mangeshkar and was danced to by Padmini.
