Dave Moody (sportscaster)
David Wayne Moody (born March 25, 1961) is an American motorsports commentator who works for the Motor Racing Network (MRN). He is the lead turn announcer for MRN and has worked for the radio network on and off since 1983. He moved to MRN full-time in 1997 and became the lead turn announcer in 2001. Since 2003, Moody has been the host of the radio show ''SiriusXM Speedway'' on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Early years Born in Barre City, Vermont, Moody discovered auto racing when his uncle, Doug MacDonald, took him to the local Thunder Road Speedbowl. The track was owned by MRN co-founder Ken Squier. Allen Bestwick (born September 24, 1961) is an American sportscaster. He is the lead play-by-play voice for University of Connecticut women’s basketball telecasts for SNY, the lead track announcer at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the lead broadcaster for the Superstar Racing Experience racing series. The Bluegreen Vacations Duel, formerly known as the Twin 125s, is a NASCAR Cup Series preliminary event to the Daytona 500 held annually in February at Daytona International Speedway. It consists of two races, which both serve as a qualifying race for the Daytona 500. The finishing order in the two races, held on the Thursday before the Daytona 500, determine the starting lineup for the Daytona 500 held on race day. Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is unique in NASCAR. Only the two front row starters (the pole and "outside pole") are determined by the standard knockout qualifying system. The 1983 Daytona 500, the 25th running of the event, was held February 20 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida as the first race of the 1983 NASCAR Winston Cup season. Summary Cale Yarborough was the first driver to run a qualifying lap of more than at the 1983 Daytona 500 in his #28 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. However, on his second of two qualifying laps, Yarborough crashed and flipped his car in turn four. The car had to be withdrawn, and the lap did not count (unlike current rules).
