Dartitis
Dartitis () is a condition that can affect darts players and severely damage their performance. It can be compared to 'the yips', an expression used to describe apparent loss of fine motor skills without any explanation. The term is used in reference to players who struggle with some kind of psychological problem affecting their ability to release their darts. Etymology Dartitis is a portmanteau of the sport's name and "-itis", a suffix that relates to a medical condition. It is described by the ''Collins English Dictionary'' as "(in darts) nervous twitching or tension that destroys the concentration and spoils performance". The word was first used in the magazine ''Darts World'' by editor Robbie Dyson in 1981. Mark Webster (born 12 August 1983) is a Welsh former professional darts player. Nicknamed Webby and The Spider, he competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Webster is a former BDO World Darts Championship, BDO World Champion, having won the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship, 2008 World Championship. Eric Bristow
Eric John Bristow (25 April 1957 – 5 April 2018), nicknamed "the Crafty Cockney", was an English professional darts player and one of the most recognisable and successful players of the 1980s. He was ranked World No. 1 by the World Darts Federation a record five times, in 1980, 1981, 1983–1985 and 1989-1990. Between 1980 and 1991, Bristow featured in ten BDO World Darts Championship finals, winning the title five times, in 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985 and 1986. Berry van Peer (born 23 August 1996) is a Dutch darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He formerly competed in World Darts Federation (WDF) events, winning his first WDF major title at the 2023 Dutch Open and winning the Swedish Masters and WDF World Cup Singles the same year. Yips
In sports, the yips are a sudden and unexplained loss of ability to execute certain skills in experienced athletes. Symptoms of the yips are losing fine motor skills and psychological issues that impact the muscle memory and decision-making of athletes, leaving them unable to perform basic skills of their sport. The exact cause of the yips is still not fully understood. A yips episode may last a short time before the athlete regains their abilities or it can require longer term adjustments to technique before recovery occurs. The worst cases are those where the athlete does not recover at all, forcing the player to abandon the sport at the highest level. The 2023 Cazoo Premier League Darts was a darts tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation – the nineteenth edition of the tournament. Cameron Menzies (born 27 June 1989) is a Scottish darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events.
