Danone S.A. () is a French multinational corporation, multinational food-products corporation based in Paris. It was founded in 1919 in Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. It is listed on Euronext Paris, where it is a component of the CAC 40 stock market index. Some of the company's products are branded Dannon in the United States. As of 2018, Danone sold products in 120 markets, and, in 2018, had sales of €24.65 billion. In the first half of 2018, 29% of sales came from specialized nutritional preparations, 19% came from branded bottled water, and 52% came from dairy and plant-based products (including yogurt). Isaac Carasso
Isaac Carasso (1874 – 19 April 1939) was a member of the prominent Sephardic Jewish Carasso (Karasu) family of Ottoman Salonica (modern Thessaloniki, Greece). After emigrating to Barcelona, he started a yogurt factory which later became Groupe Danone. Biography Carasso was born in Salonica in 1874. In 1916, after the Balkan Wars, he moved his family to Barcelona. He noticed that many young children suffered from digestive and intestinal problems. Inspired by the work of Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov, who had popularized sour milk as a health food, and recalling that such health conditions were treated with yogurt in the Balkans, he imported cultures from Bulgaria or used "pure cultures that had been isolated in Paris" at Mechnikov's laboratory at the Institut Pasteur. Since yogurt was not well known then in Western Europe, he initially sold it as a medicine, through pharmacies. Franck Riboud (born 7 November 1955) is a French businessman. He served as the chairman of Danone. Biography Franck Riboud was born on 7 November 1955 in Lyon. He is the son of Antoine Riboud, the previous CEO, who transformed the former European glassmaker BSN Group into a leading player in the food industry. He attended the Lycée Ampère in Lyon, and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. Riboud took over the reins at Danone from his father in 1996, although his family only spoke for 1% of Danone's share capital at the time. Gilles Schnepp
Gilles Schnepp (born 16 October 1958 in Lyon, France) is a French corporate senior executive. He was the Chairman and chief executive officer of the Legrand Group between March 2006 and February 2018, and then chairman until 2020. In March 2021, he was appointed chairman of Danone's board of directors. Career Having graduated from HEC Paris in 1981, Gilles Schnepp begins his career in 1983 at Merrill Lynch France. He was appointed vice president in 1986 and senior vice president in 1989. He left the world of finance in 1989 to join Legrand.
