Slovenia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "", written by Aleksander Kogoj, and performed by Regina. The Slovene participating broadcaster, (RTVSLO), held a national final in order to select its entry for the contest. Before Eurovision ''1996'' The Slovene national final in 1996 was the first edition that used the title (EMA), which has been used in all Slovene selections since. After the list of competing artists were announced, Faraoni withdrew from the competition. (RTVSLO) held EMA 1996 on 10 February 1996 at its television studios in Ljubljana, hosted by Tajda Lekše. A jury vote from twelve regional radio stations in Slovenia determined the winner. Radiotelevizija Slovenija () – usually abbreviated to RTV Slovenija, RTV SLO (or simply RTV within Slovenia) – is Slovenia's national public broadcasting organization. Aleksander Kogoj
Aleksander Kogoj is a Slovenian film director, born 1965 in Ljubljana. His interest in film making began at an early age. As a teenager he wrote a good deal, and his passions were special effects. His skills as a musician meant he could combine sound and visuals, which led to his first experimental film, 'Keketz'. His first television show was called 'Music Boutique' (Glasbeni butik). When he was a student he also worked as a script writer for commercials. Since 1993 he has made numerous commercials and music videos. In 2000 he received the TV Slovenia Award for Best Creation. The Eurovision Song Contest 1996 was the 41st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 18 May 1996 at the in Oslo, Norway. Milan Dekleva
Milan Dekleva (born 17 October 1946) is a Slovene poet, writer, playwright, composer and journalist. Dekleva was born in Ljubljana in 1946. He graduated in comparative literature from the University of Ljubljana and works as a journalist. He is best known for his poetry and has published over twenty peorty collections, a number of novels and collections of short stories. He was the first poet to publish haiku in Slovene (''Mushi mushi'', 1971). Many of his poems deal with the modern human condition in the absence of God. Slovenia has been represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 30 times since its debut in , having hosted a qualification round (Kvalifikacija za Millstreet) in Ljubljana for seven countries due to the influx of new nations wishing to join the contest.
