Daleyville is an unincorporated community located in the town of Perry, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. History The small village got its name from Onon B. Dahle, who opened a store there in 1853. In early history the community's name was spelled “Dahleville.” Daleyville once had two blacksmith shops, a wagon shop, a post office, a shoe shop, a garage and general store, a physician and a surgeon, a telephone exchange, and a school. The Onon B. and Betsy Dahle House still stands just off Highway 78 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Herman Dahle
Herman Bjorn Dahle (March 30, 1855 – April 25, 1920) was a United States Congressman in the House of Representatives from Wisconsin. Background Herman Bjorn Dahle was born in the town of Perry, Dane County, Wisconsin. He received his education in the district schools of his native town and in what is now the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he graduated in 1877. He resided at Mount Vernon, Wisconsin from 1877 to 1888 where he conducted a general mercantile business. He was also the principal owner of the Mount Horeb bank beginning in 1890. His former home, now known as the Herman B. and Anne Marie Dahle House, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. State Trunk Highway 78 (often called Highway 78, STH-78 or WIS 78) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs north–south in south central Wisconsin from Portage to the Illinois border near Gratiot. History In the 1920s, Highway 78 was originally located on the Door County Peninsula on what is now Highway 57. In 1963, the segment of STH-78 from the new I-90/I-94 freeway interchange south of Portage northerly to Highway 33 was improved to a four-lane divided facility. Perry is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 670 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated communities of Daleyville and Forward are located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.1 square miles (93.6 km), all of it land. Demographics At the 2000 census there were 670 people, 253 households, and 197 families living in the town. The population density was 18.5 people per square mile (7.2/km). There were 263 housing units at an average density of 7.3 per square mile (2.8/km).
