Dale, Fjaler
Dale or Dale i Sunnfjord is the administrative centre of the municipality of Fjaler in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located at the mouth of the river Vassdalselva on the southern shore of the Dalsfjorden (Sunnfjord), Dalsfjorden in the northern part of Fjaler, about northeast of the village of Flekke and about west of the village of Bygstad (in Sunnfjord (municipality), Sunnfjord municipality). The village has a population (2019) of 1,186 and a population density of . In December 2013, the new Dalsfjord Bridge, connecting Dale with Askvoll Municipality on the northern side of the fjord was opened and replaced the ferry route between Dale and Eikenes. Also located in Dale is the Nordic Artists' Centre Dale, an artist-in-residence centre hosting international visual artists over periods of 2 or 3 months. Jakob Sande
Jakob Sande (1 December 1906 – 16 March 1967) was a Norwegian writer, poet and folk singer from Dale in Sunnfjord. His parents were Andreas Sande and Ragna Margrete (born Barsnes). He married Solveig Ytterlid in 1942 and they had a daughter, Siri, in 1943. He wrote all his texts in Nynorsk, one of the two official Norwegian written language forms. His work helped secure a special place on the Norwegian culture-scene for the municipality Fjaler. Biography Sande was born on 1 December 1906 in the village of Dale in Sunnfjord in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. His parents, Anders (father) and Ragna Margrete (mother), lived at Klokkargarden. His career as a writer spanned from 1929 to 1967. He completed his cand philol exam in 1931, but then he went to work at sea as he had been drawn to that life from early on. In 1934 he started to work as a lector in Fredrikstad. Dalsfjord Bridge
The Dalsfjord Bridge is a suspension bridge over the Dalsfjorden in Vestland county, Norway. The bridge connects the municipalities of Fjaler and Askvoll on either side of the fjord. Flekke is a village in the municipality of Fjaler in Vestland, Norway. Flekke is located about south of the municipal center of Dale. The village is situated at the end of the Flekkefjorden, an arm of the Dalsfjorden. The village of Guddal lies about to the southeast in the valley of Guddalen. A few kilometers north of Flekke, lies the village of Haugland, while the bay continues south to Trollvika and a narrow strait into Flosjøen. Dalsfjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, and Sunnfjord. It is one of the two main fjords that comprise the Sunnfjord region of the county. The fjord is about long and it is generally about wide. The Dalsfjorden is a narrow fjord that cuts into roughly eastwards from the village of Vilnes on the island of Atløyna in Askvoll municipality.
