Dagmar Mühlenfeld
Dagmar Mühlenfeld (born March 2, 1951, in Mülheim an der Ruhr) is a German local politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, SPD and former directly elected Lord Mayor of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr. Since September 20, 2007, she has been a member of the Supervisory Board of RWE AG. Family and career Dagmar Mühlenfeld has lived in the city on the Ruhr since birth; she is married and has a grown-up son. Her husband Rolf Mühlenfeld has been a councillor, city councillor in Mülheim an der Ruhr since 1999. Dagmar Mühlenfeld was originally a teacher; she passed state examinations for the teaching profession at grammar schools in the subjects of German and history. Before taking office as Lord Mayor, she worked as head teacher of the Luisenschule Mülheim an der Ruhr, Luisenschule municipal grammar school. Mülheim, officially Mülheim an der Ruhr (, ; ; ) and also described as ''"City on the River"'', is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany. It is located in the Ruhr Area between Duisburg, Essen, Oberhausen and Ratingen. It is home to many companies, and two Max Planck Institutes. Mülheim an der Ruhr received its town charter in 1808, and 100 years later the population exceeded 100,000, making Mülheim officially a city. At the time of the city's 200th anniversary with approximately 170,000 residents, it was counted among the smaller cities of Germany. Geography Geographical location Mülheim an der Ruhr is located to the southwest of Essen in the Ruhr valley. Geology The northern foothills of the Rhenish Massif are characterised by the distinctive rock formation of the bare mountain slopes through which run coal-bearing layers which formed during the carboniferous period.
