Dagana, Senegal
Dagana is a town and urban commune situated in the Saint-Louis Region of Senegal and it is the capital of the Dagana Department, Senegal, Dagana Department. Dagana Mauritania–Senegal border, borders Mauritania across the Senegal river. The different ethnic groups in Dagana include Wolof people, Wolof, Fula people, Fula (; ''or'' Peulh), and Moors, Moor. History The village was founded in the 14th century. In 1820 the French installed a fort in Dagana, which was expanded over time. On June 18th 1833, Njembot Mbodj, lingeer of Waalo, married the Trarza Moorish leader Mohamed El Habib in Dagana. In March 1908 the French fort was unsuccessfully attacked by the marabout Aly Yoro Dia, who was killed in the attempt. Trarza
Trarza () is a region in southwest Mauritania. Its capital is Rosso. Other major cities and towns include Mederdra and Boutilimit. Trarza borders the regions of Inchiri and Adrar to the north, Brakna to the east, and the country of Senegal to the south. Its western coastline on the Atlantic Ocean is interrupted only by the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, which the region completely surrounds. The Dakar Rally () or simply "The Dakar" (), formerly known as the Paris–Dakar Rally (), is an annual rally raid organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). It is an off-road endurance event traversing terrain much tougher than conventional rallying, and the vehicles used are typically true off-road vehicles and motorcycles, rather than modified on-road vehicles. Most of the competitive special sections are off-road, crossing dunes, mud, camel grass, rocks, and erg. Stages vary from short distances up to per day. The rough terrain, driver fatigue, and lack of skill usually results in accidents and serious injuries. The event began in 1978 as a rally from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal.
