DAC (vehicle Manufacturer)
DAC, is a Romanian commercial vehicle brand produced since 1971 in the Brașov area, at Brasov Truck Factory. The brand origin stands in the initialism for Diesel Auto Camion, but same time DAC brand served as a reminder of the Romania’s history, the historic region of Dacia, once the land of the ancient dacian kingdom. Under DAC brand, the company manufactured a variety of vehicles, including trucks, special-purpose vehicles, buses, and trolleybuses, along with advanced engines developed in-house. History Brasov Truck Factory (Întreprinderea Autocamioane Brașov) was established after World War II on the foundation of the old ROMLOC automotive factory built in 1921. DAC 120 DE
The DAC 120 DE is a diesel-electric haul truck manufactured between 1988 and 1990 by Steagul Roșu (Red Flag) Brașov Romania and by Mecanica Mârşa Works. Designed in the 1980s by ICPAT institute Brașov (later renamed S.C. Tractor Proiect S.A.), developed from the Lectra Haul truck, it became one of the World's largest haul trucks at its time. The DAC 120 DE had an empty weight of 90 tonnes, and a maximum load capacity of 120 tonnes. It was 10 metres long and 5.4 metres tall over the canopy, with a wheelbase of 3.2 metres. Rocar DAC
Rocar DAC was a series of buses and trolleybuses produced by the Autobuzul (later Rocar) company of Bucharest, Romania, between 1979 and 2000. They were available in both standard 12-meter models and articulated, 17-meter models. The first examples to enter service were DAC 117UDs that were made towards the end of 1978 and entered service with the ITB in Bucharest in April 1979. For much of the 1980s and early 1990s, these buses and trolleybuses were the backbone of the urban transportation network of Romania since, throughout the 1980s, public transportation companies were not allowed to import any type of vehicle. The buses were designed and built in a period of severe shortages, the main emphasis being put on economizing material usage and simplicity of the design. Rocar (also T.V. or Autobuzul) was a van, light truck, bus and trolleybus manufacturer based in Bucharest, Romania. The firm also produced light offroad vehicles and later heavy road vehicles. During its existence, the company produced over 350,000 vehicles. History ''Tudor Vladimirescu (T.V.) LAROM
The LAROM is a Romanian native-made, highly mobile, multiple rocket launcher, attached to a DAC-25.360 6x6 truck, in service with the Romanian Land Forces, built in collaboration with Israel. Currently there are 54 systems in service, all operated by the 8th Mixed Artillery Brigade. Most likely it was influenced by the BM-21 Grad 122 mm multiple rocket launcher (MRL) system which entered service with the Soviet Army in 1963 also utilizing a six-by-six truck chassis fitted with a bank of 40 122mm launch tubes arranged in a rectangular shape that can be turned away from the unprotected cabin. The BM-21 "Grad" () is a self-propelled 122 mm multiple rocket launcher designed in the Soviet Union. The system and the M-21OF rocket were first developed in the early 1960s, and saw their first combat use in March 1969 during the Sino-Soviet border conflict. ''BM'' stands for ''boyevaya mashina'' ( – combat vehicle), and the nickname means "hail". The complete system with the BM-21 launch vehicle and the M-21OF rocket is designated as the M-21 field-rocket system and is more commonly known as a Grad multiple rocket launcher system. The DAC 6135 was a Romanian truck that was produced from 1975 to 1992 by Diesel Auto Camion (DAC) in Brașov. It proved popular in Romania and was also exported. Based on the preceding SR 113 Bucegi of 1962 but powered by a 6-cylinder Saviem diesel engine, the truck could carry a payload of . It was available as the 6135R base model with three different wheelbases, a tipper and a tractor, as well as the four-wheel drive 6135RA and 6135RAN. The truck was to be succeeded by the more advanced 8135 in 1985, but stayed in limited production alongside it for several years.
