Cult Following (Little Scream Album)
''Cult Following'' is the second studio album by American-born, Montreal-based indie rock artist Little Scream. It was released on Merge Records (in the United States) and Dine Alone Records (in Canada) on May 6, 2016. Background Sprengelmeyer's own experiences influenced the direction of Cult Following as she "'grew up in a kind of Christian religious cult' as a Jehovah’s Witness" as well as her visit to a "cult-like group in Brazil". In an interview with Exclaim, Sprengelmeyer described her album as her attempt at making '' Purple Rain'' if it was "done by a Midwestern girl with more of a folk upbringing". Although unused on the final cut of the album, three of the songs were mixed by Prince's longtime collaborator, David Z. at Sunset Sound Recorders where ''Purple Rain'' was mixed. Little Scream
Little Scream is the stage name of American-born, Montreal-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumental musician and artist Laurel Sprengelmeyer. Her debut album '' The Golden Record'' was released on Outside Music in Canada and Secretly Canadian elsewhere on March 15, 2011. Her musical style has been described as a blend of folk, pop and art rock. Laurel Sprengelmeyer was born in Iowa, where she studied piano and violin as a child. After moving to Montreal, she connected with well-known Canadian musicians, including some from Arcade Fire, Thee Silver Mt. Zion and The National, who would later collaborate on her debut album. Mary Margaret O'Hara is a Canadian singer-songwriter, actress and composer. She is best known for the album ''Miss America'', released in 1988. TV on the Radio (TVOTR) is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2001. The band consists of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals, loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars, keyboards, loops), Kyp Malone (vocals, guitars, bass, loops), and Jaleel Bunton (drums, bass, vocals, loops, guitars). David Kyp Joel Malone (born February 27, 1973) is an American multi-instrumentalist and member of the bands TV on the Radio, Iran, Rain Machine, and Ice Balloons. Biography Malone grew up in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and moved to New Jersey for High School. He graduated from North Hunterdon High School in 1991. Malone formed the band Iran with film director/singer/songwriter Aaron Aites in 2000. He later joined Tunde Adebimpe and David Sitek in TV on the Radio on ''Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes'' and has been in the band ever since. He writes, sings and plays instruments for the band. Michael James Owen Pallett (born September 7, 1979) is a Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Under their erstwhile moniker of Final Fantasy, Pallett won the 2006 Polaris Music Prize for the album ''He Poos Clouds''. Pallett is also known for their contributions to Arcade Fire, having toured with the band and been credited as an arranger and instrumentalist on each of their studio albums. The National is an American rock band of Cincinnati, Ohio natives, formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 1999. Bryce David Dessner (born April 23, 1976) is an American composer and guitarist based in Paris, as well as a member of the rock band the National. Dessner's twin brother Aaron is also a member of the group. Together they write the music, in collaboration with lead singer / lyricist Matt Berninger. Aaron Brooking Dessner (born April 23, 1976) is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. Sunset Sound Recorders is a recording studio in Hollywood, California, United States located at 6650 Sunset Boulevard. Background The Sunset Sound Recorders complex was created by Walt Disney's Director of Recording, Tutti Camarata, from a collection of old commercial and residential buildings.
