Corinna Cortes
Corinna Cortes is a Danish computer scientist known for her contributions to machine learning. She is currently the Head of Google Research, New York City, New York. Cortes is a recipient of the Paris Kanellakis Award, Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award for her work on theoretical foundations of support vector machines. Early life Corinna Cortes was born in 1961 in Denmark. Education and research Cortes received her M.S. degree in physics from University of Copenhagen in 1989. In the same year she joined AT&T Labs, AT&T Bell Labs as a researcher and remained there for about ten years. She received her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Rochester in 1993. Since 2003, she has served as the Head of Google Research, New York City, New York, and since 2011, as adjunct professor at the UCPH Department of Computer Science, Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen. The Niels Bohr Institute (Danish: ''Niels Bohr Institutet'') is a research institute of the University of Copenhagen. The research of the institute spans astronomy, geophysics, nanotechnology, particle physics, quantum mechanics and biophysics. Overview The institute was founded in 1921, as the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Copenhagen, by the Danish theoretical physicist Niels Bohr, who had been on the staff of the University of Copenhagen since 1914, and who had been lobbying for its creation since his appointment as professor in 1916. On the 80th anniversary of Niels Bohr's birth – October 7, 1965 – the Institute officially became the Niels Bohr Institute. Much of its original funding came from the charitable foundation of the Carlsberg brewery, and later from the Rockefeller Foundation.
