Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu () is a music college in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was created in 1837 with the name ''Liceo Filo-dramático de Montesión''. In 1847 the institution inaugurated the opera house Gran Teatre del Liceu. In 1854, the Liceo Filarmónico and the Gran Teatre del Liceu separated administratively. Nevertheless, both entities have always remained closely linked. Manuel Ausensi
Manuel Ausensi i Albalat (; 8 October 1919 – 1 September 2005) was a Catalan baritone opera singer. Ausensi was born in Barcelona. During the Spanish Civil War, he studied singing in Valencia and then in the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona. He made his stage debut in 1946 at the Tivoli Theater. In 1947 he sang in Gaetano Donizetti's ''Anna Bolena'' at the Liceu. He was considered particularly outstanding in roles such as Rigoletto, but also sang eighteenth century music such as Mozart and Cimarosa and French romantic opera at the Liceu for thirteen consecutive seasons. He recorded a famous full version of ''The Barber of Seville'' conducted by Silvio Varviso and co-starring Teresa Berganza and Ugo Benelli in 1964. Joan Lamote De Grignon
Joan Lamote de Grignon i Bocquet (; 7 July 1872 – 11 March 1949) was a Catalan Spanish pianist, composer and orchestra director. Life Joan Lamote de Grignon was born and died in Barcelona, the son of parents of French descent, Lluis Lamote de Grignon and Elena Bocquet. He studied with Felip Pedrell in Barcelona. In 1911 he founded the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, of which he was also music director. He directed the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He was the successor of Celestí Sadurní in directing the Municipal Band of Barcelona in 1914, from where he promoted young performers and provided the Band with an acknowledged repertoire. Three years later he was appointed director of the Conservatory of the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona. In 1943 he founded the Valencia Municipal Orchestra, which he directed until 1949. Joan Guinjoan
Joan Guinjoan i Gispert (28 November 1931 – 1 January 2019) was a Catalan composer and pianist. Life Born in Riudoms, Guinjoan studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona. In 1954, he moved to Paris and continued his studies at the École normale de musique. He also received instruction from Cristòfor Taltabull. After more than 250 piano recitals, he abandoned his career as a pianist in the 1960s. He then devoted himself to composition. In 1962, he joined the Schola Cantorum de Paris. He returned to Barcelona the following year. In 1999 he received the Creu de Sant Jordi, a distinction awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya, then in 2001, he received the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. Leonardo Balada Ibáñez (born September 22, 1933) is a Catalan American classical composer, who is noted for his operas and orchestral works. Life Balada was born in Barcelona, Spain. After studying piano at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, Balada emigrated to the United States in 1956 to study at the New York College of Music on scholarship. Frank Marshall (pianist)
Frank Marshall King (November 28, 1883May 29, 1959), was a Spanish, Catalan pianist and pedagogue born to parents of English heritage. Marshall was born in Mataró, Catalonia, Spain. He attended the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and then began studying with Enrique Granados. Marshall and Granados became close musical associates, and Marshall became Granados's teaching assistant at the latter's academy. When Granados died in 1916, Marshall became its director; he remained director until his death in 1959, and the institute's name was eventually changed to ''Académia Frank Marshall''. Among his pupils at the school was the composer Vicente Asencio. He published two pedagogic works, ''Estudio práctico sobre los pedales del piano'' (Madrid, 1919) and ''La sonoridad del piano'', which attempted to notate piano pedaling more precisely. Renata Tarragó Fábregas (23 October 1927 – 2 August 2005), a Catalan guitarist and vihuelist, was a teacher and performer, both as a solo artist and an accompanist. She was the first female guitarist to record Joaquín Rodrigo's ''Concierto de Aranjuez'', and was the editor of the first published edition of the ''Concierto de Aranjuez'' score. Núria Rial (born 1975 in Manresa, Catalonia, Spain) is a Spanish soprano. In recent years, Rial has specialized in the music of the renaissance and baroque eras, such as the works of Handel and Monteverdi. Joan Pons Álvarez ( Ciutadella, Spain, 8 August 1946) is a Spanish operatic baritone, known internationally as Juan Pons. Career Pons made his international début in 1980 at the Teatro alla Scala of Milan with ''Falstaff'', staged by Giorgio Strehler and conducted by Lorin Maazel.
