Committees Of The European Parliament
The committees of the European Parliament are designed to aid the European Commission in initiating legislation. Standing committees are made up of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who are directly elected to the seats in the European Parliament by the electorate. Each committee has a chairman and four vice-chairmen, along with numerous committee members. Each committee also has substitute members. Reports are usually compiled by a rapporteur, who is appointed by the chairman of the committee, selected from amongst the members or permanent substitutes. A committee or commission is a body of one or more persons subordinate to a deliberative assembly. A committee is not itself considered to be a form of assembly. Usually, the assembly sends matters into a committee as a way to explore them more fully than would be possible if the assembly itself were considering them. Committees may have different functions and their types of work differ depending on the type of the organization and its needs. A member of a legislature may be delegated a committee assignment, which gives them the right to serve on a certain committee. Purpose A deliberative assembly may form a committee (or "commission") consisting of one or more persons to assist with the work of the assembly. Monika Hohlmeier (née Strauß, born 2 July 1962) is a German politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2009. She is a member of the Christian Social Union, part of the European People's Party. Between 1998 and 2005 she served as Bavarian State Minister for Education and Cultural Affairs. Early life and education Born in Munich, Bavaria, Hohlmeier is the daughter of former German politician Franz Josef Strauß. She completed a training as a hotel manager. Progressive Alliance Of Socialists And Democrats
The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) is the political group in the European Parliament of the Party of European Socialists (PES). The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats was officially founded as a Socialist Group on 29 June 1953 which makes it the second oldest political group in the European Parliament after Renew Europe (Renew). It adopted its present-day name on 23 June 2009. Centre-left in orientation, the group mostly comprises social-democratic parties and is affiliated with the Progressive Alliance and Socialist International. Until the 1999 European Parliament elections, it was the largest group in the Parliament, but since then it has always been the second-largest group. Paul Johannes George Tang (born 23 April 1967) is a Dutch politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2014. He is a member of the Labour Party, part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Between 2007 and 2010 Tang was member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands. Early life Paul Johannes George Tang was born on 23 April 1967 in Haarlem in the Netherlands. Tang studied economics at the University of Amsterdam between 1985 and 1991, graduating cum laude. Irene Tinagli (born 16 April 1974) is an Italian economist and politician, who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. She serves as chairwoman of the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Tomas Gunnar Tobé (born 16 February 1978) is a Swedish politician and who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since the 2019 European Parliament election in Sweden. He was the party secretary of the Moderate Party from 10 January 2015 to 2 June 2017. The Committee on Development (Commission du développement, DEVE) is a committee of the European Parliament responsible for promoting, implementing and monitoring the development and cooperation policy of the European Union, notably talks with developing countries; aid to developing countries; and promotion of democratic values, good governance and human rights in developing countries.
