The Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army (C-LAS, Dutch: ''Commandant Landstrijdkrachten'') is the executive commander of the Royal Netherlands Army and reports directly to the Chief of Defence. The Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army is statutorily a three-star general. The current C-LAS is Air Defense Artillery Lieutenant General Martin Wijnen. History of the C-LAS The position of C-LAS was created on 5 September 2005 as part of a thorough reorganization within the Dutch Ministry of Defence in which the staffs (military and civilian) were reduced in size and an entire organizational layer was dropped. Martin Wijnen
Martin Wijnen (born 1966) is a Dutch Lieutenant-general (RNLA Engineers). He was the Commander of 43 Mechanized Brigade and is now the Vice Chief of defence. Biography After graduating from the Royal Military Academy in civil engineering, Martin was, for his junior officer assignments, stationed in Germany as an armoured engineer. In 1992, he moved back to work in the G3 Branch of a Divisional HQ after being promoted to the rank of captain. His first deployment followed later that year as CO of a Mine Clearance Training Team in Cambodia. Two more deployments followed shortly thereafter: as liaison officer for an Emergency Relief Detachment in the Netherlands Antilles and as second-in-command of the Engineers Company of IFOR-1 in Bosnia. General Marc van Uhm is a two-star general in the Royal Netherlands Army and served as its deputy commander. Biography Van Uhm was born in 1958, in the Dutch city of Nijmegen, the son of a baker, his brother being general Peter van Uhm. Van Uhm received his military education at the Military Academy in Breda. Later he was also educated at the Belgian Royal Military Academy and the U.S. Army War College. General Van Uhm held several positions within the Netherlands Army and the personnel services of the Dutch Ministry of Defence before being promoted to brigadier general to become the commander of the Dutch Special Forces in 2002. Biography Mart De Kruif received his military education at the Royal Military Academy in Breda. Later he was also educated at the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr and the U.S. Army War College.
