Colby High School (Kansas)
Colby High School is a public secondary school in Colby, Kansas, United States. It is located at 1890 S. Franklin Avenue, and operated by Colby USD 315 school district. It enrolls approximately 300 students every year. The current principal is Ryan Muhlig. History Colby High School was founded in 1890. As the community grew, so did the school, and eventually surrounding smaller schools in Levant, Kansas, and Gem, Kansas, were closed so students could attend classes at Colby. Until 1995, Colby High School was located on Third Street, but the need for a larger building was recognized, and thus emerged the building that accommodates the students and teachers now. Colby, Kansas
Colby is a city in and the county seat of Thomas County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 5,570. History In 1882, a post office was established near the center of Thomas County. Area homesteaders lived under harsh conditions in sod houses, creating demand for a town to provide lumber and other provisions to incoming settlers. J.R. Colby, a local land assessor and preacher, obtained a patent to establish the town in April 1884, and land was acquired for the town site three miles north of the post office in March 1885. The following month, the Kansas Secretary of State issued the Town Charter. Kansas Gov. John Martin named Colby the county seat in 1885, and the city was incorporated in 1886. The Union Pacific Railroad reached the city in 1887, and the Rock Island Railroad followed the next year. Nelson Toburen
Nelson Edward Toburen (born November 24, 1938) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Green Bay Packers. A serious neck injury in his second season ended his NFL career; he attended law school and eventually became a judge. Early years Born in Boulder, Colorado, Toburen played high school football in Kansas at Colby High School and college football at Wichita State University as an end. Playing career Toburen was selected in the fourteenth round (194th overall) of the 1961 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. It was the third season under head coach Vince Lombardi and the Packers won the NFL championship, their first since 1944.
