Cloquet High School
Cloquet High School (CHS) is a high school in Cloquet in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Operated by Cloquet Public Schools, it serves approximately 700 students; a typical graduating class has 160 to 200 members. It has existed for over 100 years. The current building was built in 1969, with the old building then being turned into a middle school. That building was built in 1921 replacing an earlier school destroyed, along with much of the town, in the 1918 Cloquet fire. It serves almost all of Cloquet and all of Scanlon. Academics Curriculum requirements for the four core areas are as follows: three-and-a-half years of mathematics, four years of English, four years of social studies (including geography, world events, economics, US government, world and US history courses), and three years of science. Cloquet, Minnesota
Cloquet ( ) is a city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States, at the junction of Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highway 33. Part of the city lies within the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation and serves as one of the reservation's three administrative centers. The population was 12,568 at the 2020 census. History Cloquet began as a group of small settlements around three sawmills: Shaw Town, Nelson Town, and Johnson Town. These became known as Knife Falls after a local waterfall over sharp slate rocks, and later as Cloquet. The Ojibwe in the area called the area ''Mookomaan-onigamiing'', meaning "At the Knife Portage", as the portage to avoid Knife Falls connected the three communities. The area was platted in 1883 and the village of Cloquet was incorporated from the three settlements in 1884. It became a city with a mayor and city council in 1904. Scanlon is a city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 991 at the 2010 census. Interstate 35 and Carlton County Highway 45 (CR 45) are two of the main routes in Scanlon. Other main routes include Washington Avenue (CR 16) and County Road 61 (CR 61). Scanlon is located immediately east of the city of Cloquet; and 18 miles southwest of the city of Duluth. The Anishinaabeg (adjectival: Anishinaabe) are a group of culturally related Indigenous peoples present in the Great Lakes region of Canada and the United States. They include the Ojibwe (including Saulteaux and Oji-Cree), Odawa, Potawatomi, Mississaugas, Nipissing and Algonquin peoples.
