Clay County School District is a school district serving Clay County, Florida and headquartered in Green Cove Springs. The School Districencompasses a 601 square-mile suburban/rural countyin Northeast Florida, including the communities of Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, Fleming Island, Penney Farms, Clay Hill, Oakleaf, and Keystone Heights. On February 26, 2019, the Clay County School Board voted to move forward with its decision to form a school district police department. Superintendent Addison Davis announced he had hired Lt. Kenneth Wagner, a 20-year veteran with the Clay County Sheriff's Office, as a director and proposed chief for the new department. Clay County, Florida
Clay County is located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2020, the population was 218,245. Its county seat is Green Cove Springs. It is included in the Jacksonville metropolitan statistical area. It is named in honor of Henry Clay, a famous American statesman, member of the United States Senate from Kentucky, and United States Secretary of State in the 19th century. History Clay County was created on December 31, 1858, from a section of Duval County. The area was once a popular destination for tourists because of its hot springs and mild climate. Steamboats brought them to various hotels in Green Cove Springs, such as the St. Elmo, Clarendon, and Oakland. Oakleaf High School
Oakleaf High School is a high school located in Orange Park, Florida. History The school began construction in 2007 and was completed in June 2010. The school's grand opening was August 16, 2010. The class of 2012 was the first class to graduate from Oakleaf High School. Since its opening, Oakleaf has gained a reputation for inclusiveness, being home to several multicultural organizations such as the Hispanic Club, Filipino Club, and Christian Club, as well as ranking within the top twenty schools in Florida for diversity of the student body. Middleburg High School
Middleburg High School is a high school located in Middleburg, Florida. It is a part of the Clay County School District. The athletic teams are known as the Broncos. During the 2010–2011 year there were 1,783 students. MHS lost almost 300 students following the 2009–2010 school year due to the new Oakleaf High School being built. Academics Middleburg High earned a 'B' from the Florida Department of Education for both the 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 school years.
