Clas Alströmer
Baron Clas Alströmer (9 August 1736 – 5 March 1794) was a Swedish naturalist who was a student of Carl Linnaeus at Uppsala University. From 1760 to 1764 he traveled throughout Southern Europe, collecting plants for Linnaeus. He established a botanical garden and natural museum near Gothenburg which was managed by the notable botanist Anders Dahl, another student of Linnaeus. Alströmer was the son of the industrialist Jonas Alströmer. Clas Bjerkander
Clas Bjerkander (23 September 1735, Skara – 1 August 1795) was a Swedish meteorologist, botanist, and entomologist. A Lutheran pastor, Bjerkander studied at the University of Uppsala. With Anders Dahl he wrote ''Svenska Topographiska Sällskapet i Skara'' ("Schwedische topographische Gesellschaft zu Skara") and, as sole author several short scientific papers on Microlepidoptera. Klaus Fleming
Baron Klaus Eriksson Fleming ( sv, Clas Eriksson Fleming; 1535 in Pargas – 13 April 1597 in Pohja) was a Finnish-born member of the Swedish nobility and admiral, who played an important role in Finnish and Swedish history during the rise of Sweden as a Great Power. He was a trustee of kings John III and Sigismund Vasa. His wife was Ebba Stenbock. Biography Fleming's father – a grandson of Björn Ragvaldsson – was the Councilor of State Erik Fleming (1487–1548), also a remarkable man and King Gustav Vasa's favourite. In 1569 Fleming became a member of the Privy Council, in 1571 he was made Lord High Admiral and in 1590 Lord High Constable. As the Governor of Finland and Estonia he carried the duties of the highest authority of Finland and Estonia for the Swedish realm, next only to the king. Clas Larsson Fleming
Clas Larsson Fleming (March 1592 – 27 July 1644) was an admiral and administrator involved in the development of a formal management structure for the Royal Swedish Navy under King Gustav II Adolf and Queen Christina. He is remembered as one of the ablest administrators in the history of the Swedish navy, and is in many ways a typical example of the type of aristocrat who served the Swedish Crown during the period of Sweden's imperial expansion. Biography He was the son of Lars Hermansson Fleming, the governor of Åbo in present-day Finland. He was born at Villnäs in Finland and began his military career in the army, as a cornet in the Field Marshal's Guards Company. In 1620 he began his naval service as a vice admiral and rear admiral, and served as the commander of a number of squadrons and fleets in the following years. Claes de Frietzcky (25 January 1727 – 9 October 1803) was a Swedish politician. Life and work Claes de Frietzcky was born at Alkvettern Ironworks, in Bjurtjärn, to the noble family de Frietzcky. He was the eight and youngest son of Johan de Frietzcky and Anna Elisabeth Linroth. In 1754 he became manager of the Storfors factory located outside Filipstad. He was a skilled business owner but left this profession to engage in politics. He became one of the leading people of the Caps party and during the transformations of the Swedish state in 1772, he joined the aristocratic opposition, which defended the rights of the Swedish Parliament towards the king. Clas Theodor Odhner
Clas Jonas Theodor Odhner (17 June 1836 in Alingsås, Sweden – 11 June 1904 in Stockholm, Sweden) was a Sweden, Swedish historian, and director of the Swedish National Archives (''Riksarkivet''). The son of a clergyman, Odhner's mother was a sister of Nils Ericson and John Ericsson. Odhner went to school in Skara and matriculated at Uppsala University in 1851, completing the degree of ''filosofie magister'' and becoming a docent of History in 1860. He taught at Lund University from 1865, as professor of history from 1870 until 1887, when he was appointed ''riksarkivarie'', director of the National Archives, a position where he remained until 1901. Odhner was a member of the Second Chamber of the Parliament of Sweden, Riksdag 1894–1897. He was elected Member of the Swedish Academy in 1885, and was member of several other learned societies. Arnold Clas ("Classe") Robert Thunberg (5 April 1893 – 28 April 1973) was a Finnish speed skater who won five Olympic gold medals – three at the inaugural Winter Olympics held in Chamonix in 1924 (along with a silver and a bronze medal) and two at the 1928 Winter Olympics held in St. Moritz. He was the most successful athlete at both of these Winter Olympics, sharing the honour for 1928 Winter Olympics with Johan Grøttumsbraaten of Norway. No other athlete ever won such a high fraction of all Olympic events at a single Games. He was born and died in Helsinki. Clas Åkesson Tott (c. 1530–1596) was a military Field Marshal (1572) and member of the Privy Council of Sweden (1575). In the Russo-Swedish War (1554–1557), he was the rittmeister of the cavalry squadron ''Upplandsfanan''. He became responsible for the enlistment of army personnel in Finland, in 1563. At the Battle of Axtorna, in 1566, he was taken as prisoner of war, but he was released in 1569. As the commander-in-chief of Estonia (1572–1574), he defeated the Russians at the Battle of Lode in 1573, before he was displaced by Pontus de la Gardie due to the disastrous outcome of the Siege of Wesenberg (1574).* He became the stadtholder of Finland in 1576, but he fell out of grace with John III which led to his losing his titles in 1589 and his membership in the Privy Council.
