Villa Mercedes, San Luis
Villa Mercedes is a city in the province of San Luis, Argentina. It lies on the center-east of the province, on the left-hand banks of the Quinto River, 32 km from the border with Córdoba, on National Route 148, and near the intersection of National Routes 8 and 7. National Route 7 links the city to the provincial capital San Luis, 90 km to the north-west. It had 96,781 inhabitants during the . History The city was founded by Governor Justo Daract on or around December 1, 1856, as ''Fortín Constitucional'', a mixed civilian-military fort, to protect the territory against attacks by the Ranquel aboriginal tribes. The original name was changed in 1861 to Villa Mercedes by decision of the residents, who had adopted the Virgin of Mercy (''Virgen de las Mercedes'') as their patron. Monte Chingolo
Monte Chingolo is a town in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Located in Lanús Partido in the south of the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area. History Monte Chingolo was founded on 23 November 1815 by Juan Manuel de Rosas. The settlement was the site of ''Las Higueritas'', the first recorded abattoir in Argentina. The town grew following the opening of a Ferrocarril Provincial de Buenos Aires station in 1927, and it became the site of numerous abattoirs and other industrial establishments. The Battalion 601 Arsenal at Monte Chingolo was besieged on 23 December 1975 by the ERP, a Trotskyite guerrilla group. The attack left over 100 dead, and the ERP's defeat largely subdued the organization. Grand Bourg
Grand Bourg is a city in Malvinas Argentinas Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It forms part of the Greater Buenos Aires agglomeration. Toponymy Grand Bourg is named after the ''Grand Bourg villa'' in the Paris suburb where the leader of the Argentine War of Independence, General José de San Martín lived during part of his exile (today, a neighbourhood of Évry-Courcouronnes). History The location belonged to the 19th century estancias of Juan Andrés de Cabo and Pastor Parra. Orchards and dairy farms thus predominated until, in 1948, the first lots were sold by the G.C. Grosso real estate company along the Belgrano North Railway Line. A stop was opened at the site in 1951, followed by a station in 1956. Pergamino
Pergamino () is an Argentine city in the Buenos Aires Province, Province of Buenos Aires. It has a population of about 104,985 inhabitants as per the and is the administrative seat of its county, Pergamino Partido. Its UN/LOCODE is ARPGO. History Long valued for its many springs and fertile land, the area had been home to the Charrúa and Mapuche, Araucanian people when it was first noticed by Spain, Spanish colonist around 1620. Becoming a posada along the trade route between colonial Buenos Aires and Cordoba, Argentina, Córdoba, the settlement was given its name on 3 January 1626, for the parchment paper (document lost by a group of Spaniards) found there and conforming to an Araucanian term meaning "red soil." The settlement's first businesses were established in 1700 and in 1749, recurrent attacks by displaced natives led to the construction of a fort. Burzaco
Burzaco is a city in Almirante Brown Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It has an area of 22.77 km2, holds a population of 98,859 (). It is 27 kilometres from Buenos Aires city, to which it is linked by the Ferrocarril General Roca South. Although there were some farms in the area since at least since the end of the 18th century, Burzaco was first established as a town soon after the arrival of the railway in 1865. The current city is the site of the country's first ever Flag of Argentina, National Flag monument, in Burzaco's main square. Caseros is a city in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It is the head town of the Tres de Febrero Partido which forms part of the Greater Buenos Aires urban conurbation.
