Chung Li-ho Museum
The Chung Li-ho Museum () is a museum in Meinong District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The museum is dedicated to Taiwanese novelist Chung Li-ho. History The idea to establish the museum started in June 1979 and the construction work of the building was completed in August 1983. It was the first museum writer's museum in Taiwan to be built by a citizens' organization. In 1997, the statue of Chung was erected and trail park was constructed at both sides of the museum by Kaohsiung County Government. Architecture The museum is housed in a two-story building covering a total area of 1,655 m2. It is located at the foothill of Mount Jianshan. The main theme of its architectural design is Taiwanese homes. Exhibitions The museum houses manuscripts and objects of Chung's life. Meinong District
Meinong District (WG: Meinung, Hakka: 瀰濃 Mî-nùng, ) is a Hakka district in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Meinong is one of the four districts in Kaohsiung that is the central focus of Hakka cultural development, the others being Jiasian District, Shanlin District, and Liouguei District. In March 2012, it was named one of the "Top 10 Small Tourist Towns" by the Tourism Bureau. Name During Japanese rule, the name was changed from "Mî-nùng" (瀰濃/彌濃) to Mino . "Mî-nùng" may have come from the name of a local aboriginal tribe, "Malang". Chung Li-ho
Chung Li-ho ( (pinyin Zhong Lihe), Hakka transliteration: Chûng Lî-fò or Tsûng Li-fô) December 15, 1915 – August 4, 1960, was a writer from Taiwan famous mainly for fiction. He was a Liudui Hakka (), born in Gaoshu Township, Pingtung in 1915, who moved with his parents to a newly purchased fruit and coffee plantation in Meinong in around 1932. Eloping with a woman because their same-surname relationship was taboo in their community, he resided in Japanese-occupied China - Shenyang and Beijing -between 1938 and 1946. He died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 44 in Meinong whilst revising his last and possibly finest work, a novella entitled "Rain" (). Legacy There is a Chung Li-ho Museum, located in Meinong, Kaohsiung is dedicated to Chung. His life has been dramatized as '' China, My Native Land'', a 1980 film directed by Li Hsing, featuring theme and other songs by Teresa Teng. Kaohsiung City Government
The Kaohsiung City Government is the municipal government of Kaohsiung. It was formed after the merger of Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City in December 2010. Its chief administrator is the directly elected Mayor of Kaohsiung. History In 1924, was upgraded to city status, and the Takao City Office was established in modern-day Gushan District, Gushan by the Taiwan under Japanese rule, Japanese government which reported directly to Takao Prefecture.
