London has centres of worship for a multitude of faiths. According to the 2011 Census, the largest religious groupings are Christians (46 per cent), followed by those of no religion (21.7 per cent), Muslims (15 per cent), no response (8.5 per cent),Hindus (5.0 per cent), Jews (1.8 per cent), Sikhs (1.5 per cent), Buddhists (1.0 per cent) and other (0.6 per cent). Christianity is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. The Diocese of London forms part of the Church of England's Province of Canterbury in England. It lies directly north of the Thames. For centuries the diocese covered a vast tract and bordered the dioceses of Norwich and Lincoln to the north and west. The present diocese covers and 17 London boroughs, covering most of Greater London north of the River Thames and west of the River Lea. This area covers nearly all of the historic county of Middlesex. It includes the City of London in which lies its cathedral, St Paul's, and also encompasses Spelthorne which is in modern-day Surrey.
