Chisenhale Gallery
Chisenhale Gallery is a non-profit contemporary art gallery based in London's East End. Background The organisation focuses on a programme of commissioned exhibitions, events, performances and talks. The gallery occupies the ground level of a 1930s veneer factory on Chisenhale Road situated in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, near Victoria Park, housed in the same building are Chisenhale Art Place and Chisenhale Dance Space. The gallery is one of Arts Council England's National Portfolio Organisations. Zoé Whitley
Zoé Whitley (born 30 December 1979) is an American art historian and curator who has been director of Chisenhale Gallery since 2020. Based in London, she has held curatorial positions at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate galleries, and the Hayward Gallery. At the Tate galleries, Whitley co-curated the 2017 exhibition '' Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power'', which was described by ''ARTnews'' as one of the most important art exhibitions of the 2010s. Soon after she was chosen to organise the British pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Paul Noble
Paul Noble (born 1963) is a British visual artist. Life and career Noble studied at Humberside College of Higher Education (1983–1986) and Sunderland Polytechnic (1982–1983), before moving to London in 1987. He was one of the five founder members of the co-operative who formed the City Racing gallery in London (1988–98). Noble is most well known as the creator of ''Nobson Newtown''. In 2000 Noble was the recipient of an award from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Amalia Pica (born 1978 in Neuquén, Argentina) is a London-based Argentinian artist who explores metaphor, communication, and civic participation through sculptures, installations, photographs, projections, live performances, and drawings. Early life and education Amalia Pica was born in Neuquén, Argentina, in 1978. Lynette Yiadom-Boakye
Lynette Yiadom-Boakye (born 1977) is a British painter and writer. She is best known for her portraits of imaginary subjects, or ones derived from found objects, who are painted in muted colours. Her work has contributed to the renaissance in painting the Black figure. Her paintings often are presented in solo exhibitions. Early life and career Lynette Yiadom-Boakye was born in London, UK where she currently lives and works. Her parents worked as nurses for the National Health Service after emigrating from Ghana. Linder Sterling
Linder Sterling (born 1954, Liverpool), commonly known as Linder, is a British artist known for her photography, radical feminist photomontage and confrontational performance art. She was also the former front-woman of Manchester based post-punk group Ludus. In 2017, Sterling was honored with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award. Josephine Pryde
Josephine Pryde (born 1967 in Alnwick, Northumberland) is an English artist. In 2010, reviewing a show of Pryde's work which featured "seven colour photographs of extreme close-ups of clothing on a body, and four sculptures made from half-finished woven baskets and metal butcher’s hooks," the reviewer Dan Fox said that the work "seemed somewhat aloof," adding his opinion that "there was a healthy cynicism here perhaps worth listening to." Duncan Campbell (artist)
Duncan Campbell (born 1972) is an Irish video artist, based in Glasgow. He was the winner of the 2014 Turner Prize. Early life and education Campbell was born in Dublin, one of the five children of Paddy and Veronica Campbell, entrepreneurs who founded a catering business, Campbell Catering, later sold to Aramark. Paddy Campbell is a noted sculptor, having been, he said, inspired when in his 50s by his son, and three of Duncan's siblings are also active in the arts, as a film producer, a screenwriter and an actress. Campbell grew up in Swords, north Dublin, and studied at the private secondary Sutton Park School. Florian Hecker
Florian Hecker was born in 1975 in Augsburg, Germany. He was raised in Kissing, Germany and studied Computational Linguistics and Psycholinguistics at Ludwig Maximilian Universität, Munich and Fine Arts at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Vienna, where he received his diploma in 2003. He lives and works in Vienna and Kissing, Germany.
