The General Administration of Sport () is the government agency responsible for sports in mainland China. It is subordinate to the State Council of the People's Republic of China. It also administers the All-China Sports Federation and Chinese Olympic Committee. The agency is currently led by minister Gou Zhongwen. Functions The administration is responsible for a number of areas. Yuan Weimin
Yuan Weimin (; born July 8, 1939 in Suzhou, Jiangsu) is a Chinese sports administrator and civil servant. He was the Executive President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Player career Yuan was selected to represent the Jiangsu province in the volleyball completion for the first National Games in 1958 while studying for the Nanjing Sport Institute. In 1962, he joined the national volleyball team. Cultural Revolution hit when he was at his peak. While he was not persecuted because of his peasant background was considered politically reliable at the time, his team members were sent home. Yuan spent much of the time studying volleyball coaching, without a team to coach. Yuan retired as a player in 1974 from the position of national team captain. The National Peasants' Games () are a quadrennial multi-sport event in China in which competitors from among the country's 750 million rural residents take part in sports, both conventional - including basketball, athletics, table tennis, shooting, xiangqi (Chinese chess) and t'ai chi, and traditional rural and Chinese activities, such as wushu, dragon boat racing, lion dancing, tyre pushing, food-carrying, rice planting, kite flying, jianzi (kick shuttlecock) and tug of war. It is usually held once every four years, most recently in September 2021, when the 14th National Games of China took place in Xi'an. Liu Peng (politician)
Liu Peng (; born September 1951) is a Chinese Communist Party politician, who most recently served as director of the State General Administration of Sports. Biography Born in Chongqing, he studied mechanical engineering at Chongqing University and has a graduate degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University. He was a rusticated youth in Neijiang County during the Cultural Revolution. After the Cultural Revolution ended, he was a factory worker at Chongqing Steel Company. He joined the Communist Party in May 1979. By 1985 he joined the prefecture-level standing committee of Chongqing, then a city under Sichuan province. He was then head of the provincial Communist Youth League organization in Sichuan. In 1991 he became chief commissioner (mayor equivalent) of Yibin.
