Charles Murphey
Charles Murphey (May 9, 1799 – January 16, 1861) was an American lawyer and politician from the state of Georgia. He was born in Anderson, South Carolina. Early years and education He attended the country schools, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1825. He began his practice in Decatur, Georgia. Political career Murphey served as clerk of the superior court of DeKalb County, Georgia, from 1825 to 1827, as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1839 through 1841, and as a member of the Georgia Senate in 1842, 1845, 1849–1850, and 1855–56. He was elected as a Unionist to the 32nd Congress (March 4, 1851 – March 3, 1853). Later years and death Upon leaving the Congress, Murphey resumed the practice of law. He was selected to serve as a delegate to the 1860 Democratic National Convention held in Baltimore. The Confederate States Army, also called the Confederate Army or the Southern Army, was the military land force of the Confederate States of America (commonly referred to as the Confederacy) during the American Civil War (1861–1865), fighting against the United States forces to win the independence of the Southern states and uphold the institution of slavery. William Barton Wade Dent
William Barton Wade Dent (September 8, 1806 – September 7, 1855) was an American politician, educator, soldier and businessman from Georgia. He represented Georgia in the U.S. Congress (1853–1855). Early life Dent was born in Bryantown, Maryland, in 1806 and attended Charlotte Hall Military Academy in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy in 1823 and moved the next year to Mallorysville in Wilkes County, Georgia, and taught school. Career In 1827, Dent pursued mercantile interests in Bullsboro, Georgia. He was also a key founding member of the city of Newnan, Georgia, in 1828. Dent pursued farming and milling in Coweta, Carroll and Heard Counties. He also did business in land holdings in Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas.
