Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport
Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport is 7 miles (11 km) northwest of downtown Santa Rosa, California, in Sonoma County, California, United States. The airport is named after Charles M. Schulz, the famed cartoonist of the ''Peanuts'' comic strip, who lived in Santa Rosa for more than 30 years. The airport's logo features Snoopy in World War I flying-ace attire atop his doghouse. History Military use In the 1930s Santa Rosa had a small municipal airfield owned by Richfield Oil Corporation next to the Redwood Highway about 6 miles southeast of the present airport. Use of the 3,000-foot sod runway at the earlier airfield was discontinued during World War II as facilities at the present airport improved. Opened in June 1942 and known as Santa Rosa Army Air Field, the airfield was assigned to Fourth Air Force as a group and replacement training airfield. The Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner (previously the Swearingen Metro and later Fairchild Aerospace Metro) is a 19-seat, pressurized, twin-turboprop airliner first produced by Swearingen Aircraft and later by Fairchild Aircraft at a plant in San Antonio, Texas. Design The Metroliner was an evolution of the Swearingen Merlin turboprop-powered business aircraft. The Beechcraft Model 99 is a civilian aircraft produced by Beechcraft. It is also known as the Beech 99 Airliner and the Commuter 99. The 99 is a twin-engine, unpressurized, 15 to 17 passenger seat turboprop aircraft, derived from the earlier Beechcraft King Air and Queen Air. It uses the wings of the Queen Air, the engines and nacelles of the King Air, and sub-systems from both, with a specifically designed nose structure. Golden Pacific Airlines, IATA YB (1981–1989) was a United States Regional Airline that was unrelated to the Golden Pacific Airlines of the 1970s. History Golden Pacific Airlines (YB) was founded in 1981 in Kingman, Arizona and operated a fleet of 10 seat Cessna 402 aircraft under Part 135 of Federal Air Regulations. Designated an Essential Air Service provider under provisions of the 1979 Airline Deregulation Act the carrier was selected by the US Civil Aeronautics Board, in 1981, to replace Cochise Airlines in providing Air Service to Kingman and Prescott, AZ over a linear Phoenix-Prescott-Kingman-Las Vegas route. Points served subsequently expanded to include Phoenix to Sierra Vista/Fort Huachuca, Sedona and Winslow, AZ. Fairchild F-27
The Fairchild F-27 and Fairchild Hiller FH-227 were versions of the Fokker F27 Friendship twin-engined turboprop passenger aircraft manufactured under license by Fairchild Hiller in the United States. The Fairchild F-27 was similar to the standard Fokker F27, while the FH-227 was an independently developed stretched version. Design and development The Fokker F27 began life as a 1950 design study known as the P275, a 32-seater powered by two Rolls-Royce Dart turboprops. With the aid of Dutch government funding, the P275 evolved into the F27, which first flew on November 24, 1955. The first prototype was powered by Dart 507s and would have seated 28. To correct a slight tail-heaviness and to allow for more seats, the second prototype (which first flew in January 1957) had a fuselage, which would allow seating for 32.
