Catherine Sue Opie (born 1961) is an American fine-art photographer and educator. She lives and works in Los Angeles, as a professor of photography at University of California at Los Angeles. Opie studies the connections between mainstream and infrequent society. By specializing in portraiture, studio and landscape photography, she is able to create pieces relating to sexual identity. Through photography, Opie, documents the relationship between the individual and the space inhabited. She is known for her portraits exploring the Los Angeles leather- dyke community. Her work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Life Opie was born in Sandusky, Ohio. The Whitney Biennial is a biennial exhibition of contemporary American art, typically by young and lesser known artists, on display at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, United States. The event began as an annual exhibition in 1932; the first biennial was in 1973. Tony Greene (artist)
Tony Greene (1955, San Francisco, CA - 1990, Los Angeles, CA) was a visual artist whose work combines photographic imagery with an overlay of thickly applied decorative patterns or calligraphic letterforms. Rarely exhibited during his lifetime (he died of AIDS-related illness at age 35), his work has subsequently staged what the ''Los Angeles Times'' describes as "a remarkable posthumous comeback," including a mini-retrospective of Greene's work as part of the 2014 Whitney Biennial exhibition, and additional exhibitions held in Chicago and Los Angeles during 2014, including the UCLA Hammer Museum's biennial "Made in LA" exhibition. Richard Hawkins (artist)
Richard Hawkins (born 1961 in Mexia, Texas) is an American artist. He lives and works in Los Angeles. His works are held by museums including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas, Austin in 1984 and a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in 1988. After graduating from Cal Arts, Hawkins worked for a time as a short story writer. Hawkins' art largely consists of sculpture and collage. Philippe Vergne (born 1966) is a French curator and director of the Serralves Museum, Serralves Contemporary Art Museum. Until March 2019, he was director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).
