Casiotone
Casiotone was a series of home electronic keyboards made by Casio in the early 1980s. Casio promoted the Casiotone 201 (CT-201) as "the first electronic keyboard with full-size keys that anyone could afford". The name "Casiotone" disappeared from Casio's keyboard catalog when more accurate synthesis technologies became prevalent, but the brand was reused for new models launched in 2019. The first Casiotone keyboards used a sound synthesis technique known as vowel-consonant synthesis to approximate the sounds of other instruments (albeit not very accurately). List Of Casio Keyboards
Casio electronic musical keyboards were first manufactured in June 1979 and continue to be made by Casio today. The original Casiotone line was abbreviated to CT in the mid-1980s but has continued to feature full-sized keys. MT and PT lines typically feature mini keys and the VL line features push-button keys. The CZ series is a family of low-cost phase distortion synthesizers produced by Casio in the mid-1980s. Eight models of CZ synthesizers were released: the CZ-101, CZ-230S, CZ-1000, CZ-2000S, CZ-2600S, CZ-3000, CZ-5000, and the CZ-1. Additionally, the home-keyboard model CT-6500 used 48 phase distortion presets from the CZ line. The CZ synthesizers' price at the time of their introduction made programmable synthesizers affordable enough to be purchased by garage bands. Yamaha soon introduced their own low-cost digital synthesizers, including the DX-21 (1985) and Yamaha DX100, in light of the CZ series' success. Programming Casio's phase distortion synthesis technique was championed by Casio engineer Mark Fukuda and evolved from the Cosmo Synth System that was custom-developed for legendary synthesist-composer Isao Tomita. Casio SK-1
The Casio SK-1 is a small sampling keyboard made by Casio in 1985. It has 32 small sized piano keys, four-note polyphony, with a sampling bit depth of 8 bit PCM and a sample rate of 9.38 kHz for 1.4 seconds, a built-in microphone and line level and microphone inputs for sampling, and an internal speaker and line out. It also features a small number of four-note polyphonic preset analog and digital instrument voices, and a simple additive voice. All voices may be shaped by 13 preset envelopes, portamento, and vibrato. It also includes a rudimentary sequence recorder, preset rhythms and chord accompaniment. The SK-1 was thus an unusually full-featured synth in the sub-US$100 (equivalent to $ today) home keyboard market of the time. Ozma is an American rock band from Pasadena, California. The band's sound is a mix of nostalgic new wave–influenced power pop and contrapuntal Casiotone-driven melodies sustained by heavy guitar riffs. The VL-1 was the first instrument of Casio's VL-Tone product line, and is sometimes referred to as the VL-Tone. It combined a calculator, a monophonic synthesizer, and sequencer. Hedluv + Passman
Hedluv + Passman are a rap duo from Redruth, Cornwall. They perform "Casio rap", a genre where lyrics are laid over simple homemade beats. Their song "the future!" was used in the opening credits to Rhys Darby's comedy series ''Short Poppies''. Launching in 2007, the duo were quick to make the BBC Radio 1 playlist and, after touring in Brazil in 2008, played Glastonbury Festival in 2009. Also in 2009, ''Hedluv the Musical'' was awarded "Film of the Festival" at the Cornwall Film Festival. In 2012, they performed at The Gilded Balloon for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Trio was a German band also known as ZAM in Europe, formed in the town of Großenkneten in 1979. The band is most known for the 1982 song " Da Da Da" which was a hit in 30 countries worldwide. History Trio consisted of Stephan Remmler (b. 1946), lead vocals and keyboards; Gert "Kralle" Krawinkel (1947–2014), guitar and backing vocals; and Peter Behrens (1947–2016), drums and backing vocals. The band recorded a number of albums, the first of which was '' TRIO'', released in 1981. Turnstyle are an indie rock band from Perth, in Western Australia. They are known for their use of cheap Casio keyboards, jazz instruments and lo-fi recording techniques. Biography Turnstyle are an Australian indie-rock band formed in 1995 by Adem Kerimovski (aka Adem K) and Paul Fanning. Fanning is related to actor Jackie Coogan, Uncle Fester from The Addams Family. The other members being Todd Griffiths and Dean Davies. They broke up in 2002 and reunited in 2010. By 1997 their second release took them from obscurity to the band of choice on line-ups and supports in mere months. In 1998, to support their EP "Seasides", they embarked on their first Australian tour and featured on ABC Television's 'Recovery'. Daniel Deacon (born August 28, 1981) is an American composer and electronic musician based in Baltimore, Maryland.
