The ''Cape Times'' is an English-language morning newspaper owned by Sekunjalo Investments, Independent News & Media SA and published in Cape Town, South Africa. the newspaper had a daily readership of 261 000 and a circulation of 34 523. By the fourth quarter of 2014, circulation had declined to 31 930. History The ''Cape Times'' had its origins in the great economic and social boom years that followed the Cape's attainment of "Responsible Government" (local democracy) in 1872. The first edition of the newspaper, a small four-page sheet, was published on 27 March 1876 by then editor Frederick York St Leger. St Leger was assisted by Richard William Murray Jnr, whose Richard William Murray, father of the same name had been one of the founding partners of the ''Cape Argus''. Alide Dasnois
Alide Dasnois (born 1950) is a South African journalist and newspaper editor. Education and career Dasnois matriculated from Herschel Girls School and completed a bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Cape Town. She obtained a master's degree at the Sorbonne (Université Paris I - Panthéon Sorbonne) in Development Economics. During the mid-1980s she worked as a translator in Paris. In 1988, she moved to Reunion Island to work for ''Témoignages''. In 1992, she started working at '' The Argus'' in Cape Town where she edited the business section before becoming assistant editor for ''Personal Finance'' (Cape Town). In 2001, she moved to Johannesburg and became the editor of ''Business Report'', before working as acting editor of the ''Pretoria News'' for a year in 2006. She worked as deputy editor of the Cape Times from December 2006 until April 2009, when she became first female editor of the ''Cape Times''. Desmond Young (British Army Officer)
Brigadier Desmond Young OBE, Military Cross, MC (27 December 189127 June 1966) was an Australian-born British Army officer, newspaper publisher and writer. He travelled widely in his youth, accompanying his father in his work as a maritime salvage expert. He attended the University of Oxford but was asked to leave after he failed to attend a single lecture. Young found work in Malaya as a rubber planter and operated a nightclub in London. Shortly after the outbreak of the First World War he joined the British Army, serving as an officer in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was wounded in action and won a Military Cross in June 1918. After the War Young worked as a newspaper reporter, editor and publisher in the South African ''Cape Times'' and the Indian ''The Pioneer (India), Allahabad Pioneer''.
