The Barkly Highway enters the locality from the south ( Barkly), passes from east to west through the town centre (where it is known as Barkly Street) and then exits to the west (Northern Territory). Barkly Highway
The Barkly Highway is a national highway of both Queensland and the Northern Territory in Australia. It is the only sealed road between Queensland and the Northern Territory. Description The highway runs between Cloncurry and the junction with the Stuart Highway north of Tennant Creek, known as the "Threeways". The entire highway is part of the National Highway system: in the Northern Territory it is assigned National Route 66; the Queensland portion is designated as National Route A2. The Northern Territory section has a speed limit of along most of its length. It is the main transport route between Queensland and the Northern Territory, consequently many road trains use it. Georgina River
The Georgina River is the north-westernmost of the three major rivers of the Channel Country in Central West Queensland, that also flows through a portion of the Northern Territory, in central Australia. Part of the Lake Eyre basin, the Georgina flows in extremely wet years into Lake Eyre. The river is named in honour of Georgina Mildred Kennedy, the daughter of Queensland governor Arthur Kennedy. The river was originally called the Herbert River before being given its current name in 1890 to avoid confusion with the other river in Queensland that bears that name. Camooweal Caves National Park
Camooweal Caves is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 15 km southeast of Camooweal and 1720 km northwest of Brisbane. The traditional name of this place is Wiliyan-ngurru National Park. The average elevation of the terrain is 242 meters. Description The national park consists of 13,800 hectares of eucalypt woodland, spinifex, wattle and Mitchell grass. Accessible to the public are two sinkholes that formed over 500 million years by water seepage through beds of dolomite. A picnic table is provided at Nowranie waterhole. The City of Mount Isa is a local government area in north west Queensland. Lake Eyre Drainage Basin
The Lake Eyre basin ( ) is a drainage basin that covers just under one-sixth of all Australia. It is the largest endorheic basin in Australia and amongst the largest in the world, covering about , including much of inland Queensland, large portions of South Australia and the Northern Territory, and a part of western New South Wales. The basin is also one of the largest, least-developed arid zone basins with a high degree of variability anywhere.
