Cadwallader Range
The Cadwallader Range, originally named the Cadwallader Mountains, is a sub-range of the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains in the Bridge River-Lillooet Country of the South-Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada, located between the south end of Anderson Lake (E) and the Hurley River. According to the provincial basemap, the precise alpine boundaries of the range are McGilliray Pass, at its eastern extremity and beyond which is the Bendor Range, and the pass between Noel and Sockeye Creeks on its west, which is immediately north of the lower end of Birkenhead Lake. The officially unnamed range west of that has been called the Noel Range, after its main peak Mount Noel. At the foot of the range along its northeast flank is Cadwallader Creek, scene of the historic and once-rich Bralorne and Pioneer Mines and the ghost town of Bralorne (a.k.a. Bralorne-Pioneer). Cadwallader Creek
Cadwallader Creek is an important tributary of the Hurley River in the Bridge River Country of the British Columbia Interior, Canada, most notable for its role as the home of the Bralorne and Pioneer Mines and associated gold claims and workings. Less than twenty miles in length, the creek is joined by Noel Creek within the area of the town of Bralorne, and just below Bralorne joins the Hurley River just above Hurley Falls and that river's ten-mile canyon prior to its own confluence with the Bridge River near the town Gold Bridge. Standard Creek, a short tributary of Cadwallader Creek near its upper end, connects via McGillvray Pass to the creek of the same name and, on Anderson Lake far below, the resort townlet of McGillivray Falls. Mount Shadowfax
Mount Shadowfax is a mountain summit in southwest British Columbia, Canada. Description Mount Shadowfax is located in the Cadwallader Range which is a subrange of the Coast Mountains. It is situated north of Pemberton and northeast of Mount Gandalf. Most precipitation runoff from the peak drains south to Birkenhead Lake via Phelix Creek, however a portion of the north slope drains to Cadwallader Creek, which is a tributary of the Hurley River. Shadowfax is more notable for its steep rise above local terrain than for its absolute elevation as topographic relief is significant with the summit rising over 800 meters (2,625 ft) above Phelix Creek in approximately . Mount Gandalf is a mountain summit located in the Cadwallader Range in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It is situated at the northeast corner of Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park, north of Pemberton, British Columbia, Pemberton, west of Lillooet, British Columbia, Lillooet, north of Tolkien Peak, and immediately south of Mount Aragorn, which is its nearest higher peak. Chief Hunter Jack
Hunter Jack of Shalalth inhabited the Bridge River Country region of southwestern British Columbia. He was a larger-than-life indigenous personality who died in 1905. Character His formal name was Jack Tashpola or Tash Poli. He was born at 22-Mile post. He was called chief of D'Arcy, We Enkekti, or Hunter Jack. Folklore portrays him as the hero who negotiated peace among First Nations and toward Chinese miners, but was murdered by persons unknown. Contemporary newspaper accounts present a more complex character, who was commonly intoxicated. He would often threaten with violence anyone who crossed his path. Whisky and gin were his preferred beverages. Hunting and trapping Jack was a first-class big game hunter, who trapped and hunted in the Bridge River Country. Birkenhead Peak
Birkenhead Peak, commonly known as Mount Birkenhead and sometimes Birkenhead Mountain or Mount Birken (2506 m (8222 ft) prominence: 1781 m) is a mountain in the Gates Valley region of the Lillooet Country of the South-Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. Located approximately midway between the towns of Lillooet (NE) and Pemberton- Mount Currie, the mountain's very high prominence separates it from the adjoining Cadwallader Range by the pass between Blackwater Creek and Birkenhead Lake. Pioneer Mine
The Pioneer Mine was an underground iron mine in Ely, Minnesota, United States, in operation from 1889 to 1967. It is one of only two such mines on the Vermilion Range whose above-ground structures are still standing, the other being the Soudan Mine. With The Pioneer Mine Buildings and "A" Headframe were listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1978 for their state-level significance in the themes of engineering and industry. They were nominated for being some of the last vestiges of a once-common mining technique on the Vermilion Range. The complex is undergoing adaptive reuse as the Ely Arts & Heritage Center. Bralorne
Bralorne ( ) is a historic Canadian gold mining community in the Bridge River District of British Columbia, some 130 km on dirt roads west of the town of Lillooet. Background Gold has been the central element in the area's history going back to the 1858-1860 Fraser River Gold Rush. Miners rushed to the Cayoosh and Bridge River areas looking for placer deposits, One named Cadwallader looked for the outcroppings on the creek that is now named for him and turned out later to be the site of the richest hard-rock veins in the region. Early exploratory parties of Chinese and Italians in the upper Bridge River basin were driven out by Chief Hunter Jack, who himself had a secret placer mine somewhere in the region, believed to be in upper Tyaughton Creek. and whose big-game hunting territory this also was.
