CHEX-DT (channel 12) is a television station in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, part of the Global Television Network. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, the station maintains studios on Monaghan Road (near Rose Avenue) in the southern portion of Peterborough, and its transmitter is located on Television Hill, just outside the city. History The station signed on the air on March 26, 1955 as an independently-owned affiliate of CBC Television; its inaugural broadcast was a National Hockey League ice hockey game. CHEX was founded by a media partnership that already published ''The Peterborough Examiner'' newspaper and owned radio station CHEX (now CKRU). The partnership included politician Rupert Davies, who was also involved in a similar arrangement in Kingston that established CKWS-TV. CHEX-DT-2 (channel 22) is a television station licensed to Oshawa, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, serving the Regional Municipality of Durham as part of the Global Television Network. It is Owned-and-operated station, owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, and maintains studios on Simcoe Street (just north of King Street) in Downtown Oshawa and a transmitter on Enfield Road in Clarington. CHEX-TV-2 was originally a CBC Television affiliate until August 31, 2015, when it became an affiliate of CTV Television Network, CTV. On August 14, 2018, it was announced that CHEX-TV-2's affiliation agreement with CTV would expire on August 27; the station subsequently became a Global owned-and-operated station known as Global Durham as of September 6. The Morning Show (Canadian TV Program)
''The Morning Show'' is a Canadian breakfast television show airing on Global. The program was first shown only on Global Toronto as a three-hour local morning show, but now serves exclusively as a national entertainment and lifestyle program. The program is hosted by Jeff McArthur and Carolyn Mackenzie. It debuted on October 11, 2011, from a ground level storefront studio at the Corus Entertainment Building (formerly Shaw Media Building) on 121 Bloor Street East in Downtown Toronto. On September 16, 2016, the show moved out of their Bloor Street Studio to the ET Canada studios. This was a temporary studio while a new one was being constructed at Corus Quay. The show moved to its new studios at Corus Quay on November 21, 2016. The CTV Television Network, commonly known as CTV, is a Canadian English-language terrestrial television network. Launched in 1961 and acquired by BCE Inc. in 2000, CTV is Canada's largest privately owned television network and is now a division of the Bell Media subsidiary of BCE. CKRU (AM)
CKRU-FM (100.5 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format. CKRU-FM is owned by Corus Entertainment and is branded as ''100.5 Fresh Radio''. History The station signed on the air in 1942. The call sign was CHEX and it was an AM station at 1430 kHz. It is Peterborough's oldest radio station. In 1959, it added a television station, CHEX-TV on Channel 12. CHEX moved to 980 kHz in 1958. The station was an affiliate of CBC Radio's Dominion Network until 1962. In 1968, an FM station was added at 101.5, which today is CKWF-FM. CHEX became CKRU in 1992. The CHEX call letters remain with Channel 12, which had separate ownership at the time. Switch to FM On October 11, 2007, CKRU applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to convert to the FM band. CKWS-DT (channel 11) is a television station in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, part of the Global Television Network. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, the station maintains studios on Queen Street in downtown Kingston, and its transmitter is located near Highway 95 on Wolfe Island, south of the city. History CKWS signed-on December 18, 1954, as an affiliate of the CBC network. It was originally a joint venture between Roy Thomson and the Davies family, owners of ''The Kingston Whig-Standard'' (the source of its calls). The station has been sold three times: to the Kanatec Corporation, bought by Power Corporation in 1977 and to Corus in 1999.
