The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (radio Series)
''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' is a comic science fiction, science fiction comedy radio series primarily written by Douglas Adams. It was originally broadcast in the United Kingdom by BBC Radio 4 in 1978, and afterwards the BBC World Service, National Public Radio in the US and CBC Radio in Canada. The series was the first radio comedy programme to be produced in stereo, and was innovative in its use of music and sound effects, winning a number of awards. The series follows the adventures of hapless Englishman Arthur Dent and his friend Ford Prefect (character), Ford Prefect, an alien who writes for ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (fictional), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'', a pan-galactic encyclopaedia and travel guide. John Lloyd (producer)
John Hardress Wilfred Lloyd (born 30 September 1951) is an English producer and writer of television and radio comedy. His television work includes ''Not the Nine O'Clock News'', ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'', ''Blackadder'', '' Spitting Image'' and '' QI''. He presents BBC Radio 4's '' The Museum of Curiosity''. Early life John Hardress Wilfred Lloyd was born on 30 September 1951 in Dover, Kent. His father, H. L. Zaphod Beeblebrox
Zaphod Beeblebrox () is a fictional character in the comic science fiction series ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' by Douglas Adams. He is from a planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, and is a "semi-half-cousin" of Ford Prefect, with whom he "shares three of the same mothers". Because of "an accident with a contraceptive and a time machine", his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather are actually his direct descendants (see Zaphod Beeblebrox the Fourth). Appearance This character is described across all versions as having two heads and three arms, though explanations of how he came to receive the extra appendages differs between versions. ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' is a fictional electronic guide book in the multimedia scifi/comedy series of the same name by Douglas Adams. The Guide serves as "the standard repository for all knowledge and wisdom" for many members of the series' galaxy-spanning civilization. Entries from the guidebook are used as comic narration to bridge events and provide background information in every version of the story. The guide is published by "Megadodo Publications", a publishing company on Ursa Minor Beta, and it is written and edited by many characters throughout the series. Ford Prefect (character)
Ford Prefect (also called Ix) is a character in ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' by the British author Douglas Adams. His role as Arthur Dent's friend – and rescuer, when Earth is unexpectedly demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass at the start of the story – is often expository, as Ford is an experienced galactic hitchhiker and explains that he is actually a journalist, a field researcher for the titular ''Guide'' itself, and not an out-of-work actor from Guildford as he had claimed. Arthur Dent
Arthur Philip Dent is a fictional character and the hapless protagonist of the comic science fiction series ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' by Douglas Adams. In the radio, LP and television versions of the story, Arthur is played by Simon Jones (not to be confused with Peter Jones, the voice of the guide). In Ken Campbell's 1979 stage production, Chris Langham took the part. In the 2005 film adaptation, he is played by Martin Freeman.
