CBC Radio
CBC Radio is the English-language radio operations of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The CBC operates a number of radio networks serving different audiences and programming niches, all of which (regardless of language) are outlined below. English CBC Radio operates three English language networks. *CBC Radio One - Primarily news and information, Radio One broadcasts to most communities across Canada. Until 1997, it was known as "CBC Radio". * CBC Music - Broadcasts an adult music format with a variety of genres, with the classical genre generally restricted to midday hours. From 2007 to 2018, it was known as "CBC Radio 2". * CBC Radio 3 - Broadcasts a youth-oriented indie rock format on Internet radio and Sirius XM Radio. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (french: Société Radio-Canada), branded as CBC/Radio-Canada, is a Canadian public broadcaster for both radio and television. It is a federal Crown corporation that receives funding from the government. The English- and French-language service units of the corporation are commonly known as CBC and Radio-Canada, respectively. Although some local stations in Canada predate the CBC's founding, CBC is the oldest existing broadcasting network in Canada. The CBC was established on November 2, 1936. Ici Radio-Canada Première
Ici Radio-Canada Première (formerly Première Chaîne) is a Canadian French-language radio network, the news and information service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known as Société Radio-Canada in French), the public broadcaster of Canada. It is the French counterpart of CBC Radio One, the CBC's similar English-language radio network. The service is available across Canada, although not as widely as CBC Radio One. Only the provinces of Quebec and Ontario are served by more than one ''Première'' originating station. In all other provinces, the whole province is served by a single station with multiple transmitters. The network does, however, reach 90 percent of all Canadian francophones. CBC Radio One is the English-language news and information radio network of the publicly owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It is commercial-free and offers local and national programming. It is available on AM and FM to 98 percent of Canadians and overseas over the Internet, and through mobile apps. CBC Radio One is simulcast across Canada on Bell Satellite TV satellite channels 956 and 969, and Shaw Direct satellite channel 870. A modified version of Radio One, with local content replaced by additional airings of national programming, is available on Sirius XM channel 169. Highway Of Tears Murders
The Highway of Tears is a corridor of Highway 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert in British Columbia, Canada, which has been the location of many disappearances and murders beginning in 1970. The phrase was coined during a vigil held in Terrace, British Columbia in 1998, by Florence Naziel, who was thinking of the victims' families crying over their loved ones. There are a disproportionately high number of indigenous women on the list of victims. Proposed explanations for the years-long endurance of the crimes and the limited progress in identifying culprits include poverty, drug abuse, widespread domestic violence, disconnection with traditional culture and disruption of the family unit through the foster care system and Canadian Indian residential school system. Connie Walker (journalist)
Connie Walker is a Cree journalist. Personal life Walker grew up in the Okanese First Nation, in Saskatchewan. She describes growing up in a remarkably large and close family. She has 13 siblings and both of her parents also have large families. Walker has one daughter. Walker was awarded a Joan Donaldson Newsworld Scholarship while studying at Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, which provided her with an opportunity to work as an intern for CBC Newsworld. She graduated in journalism from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, and subsequently graduated from the University of Regina. Career Walker says her first act of journalism was an article she wrote for her high school newspaper about the brutal murder of a young First Nations woman and the institutional racism in the investigation and reporting of that murder. David Ridgen
David Ridgen is an independent Canadian filmmaker born in Stratford, Ontario. He has worked for CBC Television, MSNBC, NPR, TVOntario and others. He is currently the writer, producer and host of CBC Radio’s true-crime podcast series, '' Someone Knows Something'' and ''The Next Call''. Early work (1990-2000) Ridgen assisted his brother Robert to make ''Canadian Images of Vietnam'' in 1990. The compilation, produced and researched by Robert, was acquired by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography in 1991. From February to April 2013, ''Canadian Images of Vietnam'' was featured in the National Gallery of Canada installation, "Clash: Conflict and its Consequences". ''The Current'' is a Canadian current affairs radio program which airs weekday mornings on CBC Radio One. It airs weekdays starting at 8:37 a.m. local time and runs until 10 a.m., and features interview sessions and radio documentaries that typically take up a half hour each. Someone Knows Something
''Someone Knows Something'' (or ''SKS'' for short) is a podcast by Canadian award-winning filmmaker and writer David Ridgen, first released in March 2016. The series is hosted, written and produced by Ridgen and mixed by Cesil Fernandes. The series is also produced by Chris Oke and executive producer Arif Noorani. Using investigative journalism, Ridgen narrates a nonfiction story about a criminal cold case over multiple episodes. Nunavut
Nunavut ( , ; iu, ᓄᓇᕗᑦ , ; ) is the largest and northernmost territory of Canada.
