Television in Germany began in Berlin on 22 March 1935, broadcasting for 90 minutes three times a week. It was home to the first regular television service in the world, named '' Fernsehsender Paul Nipkow''. In 2000, the German television market had approximately 36.5 million television households, making it the largest television market in Europe. Nowadays, 95% of German households have at least one television receiver. All the public-service German TV channels are free-to-air. ''Kabel Eins'' (; meaning Cable One) is a German free-to-air television channel that was launched on 29 February 1992 as ''Der Kabelkanal'' (). It is owned by ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG. It is largely known for airing classic American films as well as TV series and documentaries. It is considered to be a sister channel of ''ProSieben''. ''Kabel Eins'' has regularly taken over TV series from ''ProSieben'' when they were not successful enough or had already been broadcast several times. An example is ''Without a Trace'', which was considered a failure on ''ProSieben'' but is quite successful on ''Kabel Eins''. It also acquired several shows from RTL II. On May 4, 2016, ProSiebenSat.1 announced that the station kabel eins Doku would be launched as a spin-off of kabel eins in the second half of 2016. Vox is a German free-to-air television channel launched on 25 January 1993 and owned by RTL Group. The channel mainly broadcasts documentaries and American TV shows and movies. An integral part of the night program is the series ''Medical Detectives'' / ''Forensic Files'', which regularly gets very high ratings, sometimes up to 20%, which is rather unusual for the broadcaster. Subtitles are Writing, texts representing the contents of the audio in a film, television show, opera or other audiovisual media. Subtitles might provide a Transcription (linguistics), transcription or translation of spoken dialogue. Dubbing (also known as re-recording and mixing) is a post-production process used in filmmaking and the video production process where supplementary recordings (known as doubles) are lip-synced and "mixed" with original production audio to create the final product. Often this process is performed on films by replacing the original language to offer voiced-over translations. After sound editors edit and prepare all the necessary tracks—dialogue, automated dialogue replacement (ADR), effects, Foley (filmmaking), foley, and music—the dubbing mixers proceed to balance all of the elements and record the finished soundtrack. Sky Deutschland GmbH, branded as Sky, is a German media company that operates a direct broadcast satellite Pay TV platform in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (through Sky Switzerland). It provides a collection of basic and premium digital subscription television channels of different categories via satellite and cable television. It was launched in 1991 as Premiere. The channel originally started as a single analogue channel on the Astra 1A satellite, entirely without any commercials, showing films dubbed into German, as well as in original audio, live football matches from the German Bundesliga and Austrian Bundesliga (and at one time the UEFA Cup), and documentaries, concerts and TV series.
