Smøla is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Møre og Romsdal Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Nordmøre Districts of Norway, region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hopen, Møre og Romsdal, Hopen, other villages include Dyrnes, Råket, and Veiholmen. Smøla (island)
Smøla is the 19th largest island in Norway. The island is located in Smøla Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county; the vast majority of the municipality is the island. The island has a good road network across the island that connects it to many of the small surrounding islands, however, it does not have any outside road connections to the rest of Norway. The only regular ferry service is via the small island of Edøya to the south of Smøla, which one can drive to and from Smøla. The population of the island is mostly employed in the fishing industry or in industries that support the fishing industry. There is also a window factory on the island, as well as some dairy and vegetable farming (especially carrots). Geography The island lies to the north of the Edøyfjorden and to the west of the Ramsøyfjorden, about north of the town of Kristiansund. Smøla Wind Farm (''Smøla vindpark'') is a 68-turbine wind farm located in Smøla Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The farm is located southeast of the village of Dyrnes on the island of Smøla. It is operated by Statkraft and covers an area of . Total installed effect is 20 x 2.0 MW (phase one) plus 48 x 2.3 MW (phase two). The maximum production capacity is 150 MW and total generating capacity is in average 450 GWh per year, making Smøla one of the largest wind farms in the country. Josef Von Smola (1764–1820)
Josef Freiherr von Smola (12 June 1764 in Teplice – 29 November 1820 in Vienna) was a (commissioned) officer and holder of the Knight's and Commander's Crosses of the Order of Maria Theresa. Life He joined the army as an artillery gunner in 1780. He was awarded the rank of lieutenant in 1786. In the war against the Turks, he significantly participated in the siege of the towns of Sabac and Belgrade. He became famous for fundamental improvement in artillery organization in Flanders in 1790. In 1792 he took part in the crusade against France, among others, in the battle of Jemappes. In 1793 he took charge of Archduke Charles horse battery command. Subsequently, he won at the battle of Neerwiden and he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Maria Theresa for this victory. He was badly wounded at the battle of Fleurus in 1794. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1796 for key help during the defence of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Josef Von Smola (1805–1856)
Josef Freiherr von Smola (16 November 1805 in Vienna – 29 June 1856 in Lyon) was an Austrian officer. Life His father was Josef von Smola (1764–1820), officer and holder of the Knight's Cross of the Order of Maria Theresia. He graduated from Theresianischen Ritterakademie in Vienna and in 1820 he joined the artillery, just as his father. He continued to study, namely at the Vienna Polytechnic Institute. In 1831, he rose to the rank of battery commander, in 1840 to the rank of captain and company commander, and in 1848 to the rank of major. In 1849 he rose to the rank of colonel, and he joined the general directorate of the artillery as district commander in Vienna. From 1851, he worked as the artillery director in Prague, 1852 in Vienna and subsequently in Galicia. After that, he was promoted to major general and obtained the 8th field artillery regiment. Karl Von Smola
Karl Freiherr von Smola (15 November 1802 in České Budějovice - 14 February 1862 in Štýrský Hradec) was an Austrian officer. Life His father was Josef von Smola (1764–1820), officer and holder of the Knight´s Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresa. He graduated from Theresianischen Ritterakademie in Vienna and in 1817 he joined the artillery, just as his father. In 1819 he rose to the rank of lieutenant, in 1827 to the rank of first lieutenant, and in 1840 to the rank of major. In 1847 he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and subsequently in 1848 to the rank of colonel, and he became chief of staff. Afterwards, he was seriously injured at the town of Udine and he lost one leg. In 1849, he was decorated with the Knight´s Cross of the Order of Maria Theresia, just as his father earlier. He continued to work at the general staff until 1852 when he became professor of military organization and military geography. From 1853, he worked as director of the Polytech ...
