Sigdal
Sigdal is a Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Buskerud Counties of Norway, County, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Prestfoss. The municipality of Sigdal was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The area of Krødsherad was separated from Sigdal on 1 January 1901. The municipality has common borders with the municipalities of Flå, Krødsherad, Modum, Øvre Eiker, Flesberg, Rollag, and Nore og Uvdal. Name The Old Norse form of the name was ''Sigmardalr'' or ''Sigmudalr''. The first element is the genitive case of a river name ''Sigm(a)'' (now called the Simoa) and the last element is ''dalr'' which means "valley" or "dale". The Simoa river runs through Sigdal, flowing in a south-easterly course until it flows into Drammenselva at Åmot, Buskerud, Åmot in Modum Municipality. Prestfoss is the administrative center of Sigdal municipality in Buskerud, Norway. Highway Fv287 passes through Prestfoss. Both Fv132 and Fv133 start from here. Summary The population of Pressfoss as of 2005 was 465. Prestfoss is located 1.5 hours northwest of Oslo (100 km). Prestfoss is the location of Holmen Church (Buskerud), Holmen Church (''Holmen Kirke'') a parish church which dates from 1853. Ringerike (traditional District)
Ringerike is a traditional district in Norway, commonly consisting of the municipalities Hole, Norway, Hole and Ringerike (municipality), Ringerike in Buskerud county. Buskerud
Buskerud () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway, bordering Akershus, Oslo, Innlandet, Vestland, Telemark and Vestfold. The region extends from the Oslofjord and Drammensfjorden in the southeast to Hardangervidda mountain range in the northwest. The county administration was in modern times located in Drammen. Eggedal
Eggedal is a valley and parish in Buskerud county, Norway. It consisting of the northwestern half of the municipality of Sigdal. Location Eggedal is located between Numedalsfjellene in the west and Norefjell in the east, stretching northwards from the mountain Andersnatten, and borders in the north to Flå in Hallingdal. Eggedal is situated to the west of the Norefjell mountain range. There is farmland on the valley floor. In all other directions, the terrain rises quite steeply. The sprawling valley of Eggedal was formed by the meandering Eggedøla River. It begins as the Haglebu river a few miles north of Lake Haglebuvatna with top sources in the regions bordering Nes and Nore og Uvdal. Andersnatten
Andersnatten is a mountain located at Eggedal in the municipality of Sigdal in Buskerud, Norway. Andersnatten is a distinctive, round-topped mountain that rises out of the valley floor. Norwegian artists Theodor Kittelsen and Christian Skredsvig both made paintings of the mountain. Andersnatten has a height of 733 meters above sea level. Simoa
Simoa is the name of a river which flows through the municipalities of Sigdal and Modum in Buskerud County, Norway. Location The Simoa river runs from Lake Soneren through the municipality of Sigdal in a south-easterly course until it flows into Drammenselva at Åmot in Modum. The river begins a few miles north of Lake Haglebuvatna where it is initially known as the Haglebu, later becoming the Eggedøla as it flows through the valley of Eggedal. Formannskapsdistrikt
() was the name of a Norwegian self-governing municipality. The name was used from the establishment these municipalities in 1838 until the name fell out of use in 1863. The municipalities had their legal basis from two laws enacted on 14 January 1837. The laws established two types of ; one for cities () and one for rural districts (). These districts were mostly based on the former parishes. City municipalities had a monopoly on trade in both the municiality and for surrounding districts.
