Q Tour
The Q Tour, officially the WPBSA Q Tour, is a second-tier series of snooker tournaments immediately below the level of the World Snooker Tour, consisting of amateur and ex-professional players to compete for qualifying places to the main tour. It is organised by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). The tour originally ran from the 1994–95 season as professional non-ranking events. Due to the large numbers of players on tour at that time, the new WPBSA Minor Tour was formed so players lower down the rankings had tournaments to play in. Being subsequently rebranded the UK Tour and then the Challenge Tour, The WPBSA operated the three-level circuit until the end of the 2002–03 season when it split with the amateur governing body and professional players were no longer eligible to enter through the third-tier International Open Series. WPBSA
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) is the governing body of professional snooker and English billiards. It is headquartered in Bristol, England. Founded as the Professional Billiard Players Association (PBPA) in 1946, with Joe Davis as chairman, it was revived in 1968 after some years of inactivity and renamed the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association in 1970. Its current chairman is Jason Ferguson. The WPBSA devises and publishes the official rules of the two sports. It promotes their global development at the grassroots, amateur, and professional levels; enforces conduct regulations and disciplines players who breach them; and works to combat corruption, such as by investigating betting irregularities. Maximum Break
A maximum break (also known as a maximum, a 147, or orally, a onefourseven) is the highest possible in snooker in normal circumstances and is a special type of . A player compiles a maximum break by potting all 15 with 15 for 120 points, followed by all six for a further 27 points. Compiling a maximum break is regarded as a highly significant achievement in the game of snooker, and may be compared to a ninedart finish in darts, a holeinone in golf, or a 300 game in tenpin bowling. Joe Davis made the first officially recognised maximum break in a 1955 exhibition match in London. At the Classic in January 1982, Steve Davis achieved the first recognised maximum in professional competition, which was also the first in a televised match. 2020–21 Snooker Season
The 2020–21 snooker season was a professional snooker season with tournaments played from 13 September 2020 to 9 May 2021. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the season was played almost entirely without a live audience with only the 2021 World Snooker Championship being played in front of a crowd. All snooker tournaments in the season were played in the United Kingdom, due to travel and quarantine restrictions preventing the tour and players from utilising usual venues. Judd Trump won five ranking events during the season, whilst Mark Selby won the 2021 World Snooker Championship, to win his fourth world championship. Trump retained the world number one spot throughout the season, also reaching the final of the 2020 UK Championship, losing to Neil Robertson. 2018–19 Challenge Tour
The Q Tour, Challenge Tour 2018/2019 was a series of snooker tournaments that took place during the 2018–19 snooker season, 2018–19 season. It was a second-tier tour for players not on the main World Snooker Tour. The top two players in the final rankings earned a two-year card to the World Snooker Tour for 2019–20 snooker season, 2019–20. Brandon Sargeant was certain of his place in the top two even before the final event. Prior to the draw for the final event, Sargeant led the rankings and only David Grace (snooker player), David Grace and Mitchell Mann could catch him. Q School (snooker)
The Q School is an amateur snooker competition which serves as the qualification school for the World Snooker Tour. Overview Q School is established in 2011 as an attempt to streamline the qualification process and is held annually before the start of the professional season, where amateurs and ex-professionals who dropped out of the top 64 in Snooker world rankings, world rankings in previous seasons can compete for a two-year tour card to play on the Main Tour. It replaced the amateur tournament International Open Series, the former second-tier snooker series organised by the English Association of Snooker and Billiards (EASB). In 2022, a Q School branch in Bangkok was established for entrants from the Asia-Oceania region. 2 qualifying places were awarded to the winners whilst discontinuing qualification through Standings (sports), Order of Merit in Q School Europe. Players Tour Championship
The Players Tour Championship was a series of snooker tournaments comprising some minor-ranking events played in Europe, and an Asian leg comprising some minor-ranking events in Asia. The series concluded with a Players Championship Grand Final, Grand Final, where qualification was based on performance in the other PTC events, and had the status of a full ranking tournament. Each regular event lasted for at least three days, with qualifying days for amateurs should the event be oversubscribed. 2010–11 Snooker Season
The 2010–11 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between 20 May 2010 and 2 May 2011. The German Masters was the first ranking tournament in Germany since the 1997/1998 season. The Grand Prix was renamed to World Open, and the format of the tournament was changed with 32 amateurs joining the Main Tour professionals. The Players Tour Championship minor-ranking series was introduced to the calendar. These events were open to amateurs and professionals with a separate Order of Merit. The top 24 in the Order of Merit qualified for the Finals, which was a ranking event. The Premier League was for the first time part of the Main Tour. Pro Challenge Series
The Pro Challenge Series was a series of non-ranking snooker tournaments held during the 2009–10 snooker season. The events were open to all players on the main tour and were intended to give tour players more playing opportunities. Seven events were planned but only four took place before the series was cancelled, due to low player participation. The series was not repeated and was replaced by the Players Tour Championship, which started the following season. Prize fund Except for event 2, events had a prize fund of £15,000 with the winner receiving £5,000. Event 2, which was played using the six-red format, had a prize fund of £10,000 with the winner receiving £3,000. In event 2 the £500 break prize went to the player with the fastest maximum break. Adrian Gunnell
Adrian Gunnell (born 24 August 1972) is an English former professional snooker player from Telford. He reached the last-16 in four world ranking events (three in Asia, in three different seasons, and at the 2008 Grand Prix). While practising in 2003 he compiled three 147 breaks in four frames. Victories he achieved during the 2007–08 season included beating Marco Fu 5–3 in last 48 of the Northern Ireland Trophy, and Matthew Stevens 9–7 at the same stage of the 2007 UK Championship from 5–7 behind, to qualify for the final stages of the event played in his home town for the first time. He lost to Peter Ebdon 5–2 and Ding Junhui 9–3 in the last 32 of both tournaments respectively, but his consistent performances took him up to number 36 in the 2008/2009 rankings. Nick Dyson
Nick Dyson (born 19 December 1969) is an English former professional snooker player. He competed on the main tour over sixteen seasons between 1989 and 2006. Career Born in 1969, Dyson turned professional in 1989. In his first season on the main tour, he reached the last 16 at the 1990 European Open, where he defeated Ian Williamson, Steve Longworth, Dennis Taylor and Martin Clark and was drawn against the resurgent Colin Roscoe. In their match, Dyson led 2–1 but eventually lost 2–5. At the 1991 World Championship, he beat Eddie Sinclair, Mark Rowing and Cliff Thorburn - becoming the first person to defeat Thorburn in a World Championship qualifying match - to reach the main stages at the Crucible Theatre for the first time. There, he played Jimmy White, who compiled three century breaks in winning 10–3.
