Pärnu County
Pärnu County ( or ''Pärnumaa''; ) is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is situated in the south-western part of the country, on the coast of Gulf of Riga, and borders Lääne and Rapla counties to the north, Järva and Viljandi counties to the east, and Latvia to the south. In 2022, Pärnu County had a population of 85,705 – constituting 6.4% of the total population of Estonia. Pärnu County is the largest county of Estonia in terms of land area. History In Pärnu county, there is the oldest known human settlement in Estonia, which is the town of Sindi, and it is up the Pärnu River, near the village of Pulli. It dates back to 8500 BCE in the Mesolithic historical period. County government The administrative reform in Estonia abolished county governments by the end of 2017. Pulli Settlement
Pulli settlement, located on the right bank of the Pärnu River, is the oldest known human settlement in Estonia. It is located near the present-day village of Pulli, two kilometers from the town of Sindi, which is 14 kilometers from Pärnu. According to radiocarbon dating, Pulli was settled around 11,000 years ago, at the beginning of the 9th millennium BC. A dog tooth found at the Pulli settlement is the first evidence for the existence of the domesticated dog in the territory of Estonia. In all, 1,175 items used by people of the Mesolithic period were excavated at the Pulli settlement, among them tools mostly made of flint, especially arrowheads. A few items made of bone were found too, such as fishhooks and accessories made of animal claws. In the Baltic area, the best sources of flint were on the south and southeast of the Baltic, in present-day Latvia and Lithuania and in Belarus. Häädemeeste Parish
Häädemeeste () is a municipality located in Pärnu County of Estonia. Häädmeeste literally means "(place) of good men" in Estonian. Nigula Nature Reserve is partly located in Häädemeeste Parish. Toomas Kivimägi (born 16 February 1963 in Lihula, Lääne County) is an Estonian politician and lawyer. He has been a member of the XIII and XIV Riigikogu.
