The Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Demons, is an Australian rules football club based in Lathlain, Western Australia, Lathlain, Western Australia, currently playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). Representing the south-east area of the Perth, Western Australia, Perth metropolitan region, the club currently trains and plays its home games at Lathlain Park (currently known, for sponsorship reasons, as Mineral Resources Park), having previously played at the WACA Ground between 1899 and 1958 and later 1987 WAFL season, in 1987 1988 WAFL season, and 1988. West Australian Football League
The West Australian Football League (WAFL "waffle" or "W-A-F-L") is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from April to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The league also runs reserves, colts (under-19) and women's competitions. The WAFL was founded in 1885 as the West Australian Football Association (WAFA), and has undergone a variety of name changes since then, re-adopting its current name in 2001. Women's Australian Rules Football
Women's Australian rules football (in areas where it is popular, known simply as women's football or women's footy or women's AFL), is the female-only form of Australian rules football, generally with some modification to the laws of the game. It is played by more than half a million women worldwide and with 119,447 Australian adult and 66,998 youth female participants in 2023 is the second most played code among women and girls in Australia behind soccer. The first Australian rules football matches involving women were organised late in the 19th century, but for several decades it occurred mostly in the form of scratch matches, charity matches and one-off exhibition games. The 2024 WAFL season was the 140th season of the various incarnations of the West Australian Football League (WAFL). The season commenced on the 28th of March 2024. Peel Thunder won their third premiership, beating the minor premiers East Perth in the Grand Final. Peter German
Peter German (born 2 February 1965) is an Australian rules footballer coach and former player. Since retiring as a player at North Melbourne in the AFL, he has been an assistant coach at Hawthorn, West Coast, Fremantle and the Bulldogs. German has also been a senior coach at second tier clubs in three states, and won the 2004 and 2006 WAFL premierships as coach of Subiaco. German is a life member of both North Melbourne and the VFL. Career German played 185 games for 201 goals for North Melbourne in the AFL. Used primarily as a midfielder over a 10 year career with one club. His first coaching assignment was with Burnie in 1995 before he moved into the AFL. He was an assistant coach at Hawthorn and West Coast. 2020 WAFL Season
The 2020 WAFL season (officially the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season) was the 136th season of the various incarnations of the West Australian Football League (WAFL). The season commenced on July 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced West Coast into recess for this season. Perth played in its first finals match since 1997, against West Perth at Arena Joondalup. Contrariwise, Peel, for over a decade and a half Perth’s perennial rivals for the wooden spoon, became the first team since 1999 to finish a Westar Rules/WAFL season without a win – indeed, before this COVID-19-shortened season, no WAFL team had managed only one win in a season since the Thunder in 2003. 1997 Westar Rules Season
The 1997 Westar Rules season was the 113th season of senior football in Perth, Western Australia. It featured a number of dramatic changes to a competition whose popularity had been dramatically reduced by the drain of players to the Eagles and Dockers of the AFL. The competition's name was changed from the prosaic ‘West Australian Football League’ to ‘Westar Rules’ in an attempt to update the local competition for a more sophisticated audience. However, this change became regarded as unsuccessful and was reversed as per recommendations of the “Fong Report” after four seasons. West Perth also changed their name to Joondalup to recognise their location in Perth's growing northwestern suburbs, but changed back after the ninth round.
