Oder-Spree
Oder-Spree is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the eastern part of Brandenburg, Germany. Neighboring are (from north clockwise) the district Märkisch-Oderland, the district-free city Frankfurt (Oder), Poland, the districts Spree-Neiße and Dahme-Spreewald, and the States of Germany, ''Bundesland'' Berlin. Geography The district is named after the two major rivers in the district - the Spree (river), Spree river forms a large bend within the district; the Oder river constitutes the eastern border. History The district was created in 1993 by merging the districts Eisenhüttenstadt, Beeskow and Fürstenwalde, and the district-free city Eisenhüttenstadt. Grünheide (Mark) is a Municipalities of Germany, municipality in the Oder-Spree District, in Brandenburg, Germany. Woltersdorf, Brandenburg
Woltersdorf is a municipality in the Oder-Spree district in Brandenburg. It is often referred to as "near Berlin" (German: "bei Berlin") or "near Erkner" (German: "bei Erkner") as there are a number of other places bearing the same name in Germany. Geography The municipality is located at the three lakes Flakensee, Kalksee and the Bauernsee, between Schöneiche, the Berlin forest and Erkner. Storkow, Brandenburg
Storkow (Mark) is a town in Oder-Spree district, in Brandenburg, Germany. The town was the part of Brandenberg Province of Prussia, from 1815 - 1947, then it was the part of the State of Brandenburg from 1947 to 1952, Bezirk Frankfurt of East Germany from 1952 to 1990 and it again became a part of the State of Brandenburg since 1990. Geography Storkow is situated in the western part of Oder-Spree district, about southwest of Fürstenwalde. The municipal area comprises several lakes of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park; in the south, the Spreewald biosphere reserve stretches into Lower Lusatia. Friedland, Brandenburg
Friedland (Lower Sorbian: ''Bryland'') is a town in the Oder-Spree district, in Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated in the historic Lower Lusatia region, about south of Beeskow, and north of Cottbus. History The town was first mentioned as ''Fredberg'' in a 1235 deed issued by the Lusatian margrave Henry III of Meissen. A 1301 contract signed by Margrave Frederick I named a town and castle of ''Vredeburch'', then a possession of the Lords of Strehla, who served as ''ministeriales'' of the ruling House of Wettin. The present name first appeared in a 1350 bull issued by Pope Clement VI. With Lower Lusatia, Friedland passed under the suzerainty of the Bohemian Crown in 1367. Eisenhüttenstadt
Eisenhüttenstadt (; ; ) is a town in the Oder-Spree district of the state of Brandenburg, in eastern Germany, on the border with Poland. East Germany founded the city in 1950. Beeskow
Beeskow (; , ;) is a town in Brandenburg, in eastern Germany, and capital of the Oder-Spree district. It is situated on the river Spree (river), Spree, 30 km southwest of Frankfurt an der Oder. History In 1518 the town was purchased by the Diocese of Lubusz, and it was the place of death of the last bishop in 1555. The town was a fief of the Kingdom of Bohemia until 1742, when it was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia. From 1815 to 1947, it was part of the Province of Brandenburg. One of the main escape routes for insurgents of the unsuccessful Polish November Uprising from partitioned Poland to the Great Emigration led through the town. Fürstenwalde
Fürstenwalde/Spree (; ) is the most populous town in the Oder-Spree District of Brandenburg, in eastern Germany. Geography The town is situated in the glacial valley (''Urstromtal'') of the Spree river north of the Rauen Hills, about east of Berlin and west of Frankfurt (Oder). The district capital Beeskow is about to the southeast. In the north, the municipal area comprises the village of Trebus. The town is located on the western part of historic Lubusz Land (Land Lebus).
