Møn
Møn () is an island in south-eastern Denmark. Until 1 January 2007, it was a municipality in its own right but it is now part of the municipality of Vordingborg Municipality, Vordingborg, after merging with the former municipalities of Langebæk, Præstø, and Vordingborg. This has created a municipality with an area of and a total population of 46,307 (2005). It belongs to the Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region"). Møn is one of Denmark's most popular destinations for tourists with its Møns Klint, white chalk cliffs, countryside, sandy beaches and the market town of Stege, Denmark, Stege. In June 2017, UNESCO designated Møn as Denmark's first biosphere reserve, consisting of "a series of islands and islets in the southern Baltic Sea, over approximately . Møns Klint
Møns Klint is a 6 km stretch of limestone and chalk cliffs along the eastern coast of the Danish island of Møn in the Baltic Sea. Some of the cliffs fall a sheer 120 m to the sea below. The highest cliff is , which is 128 m above sea level. The area around Møns Klint consists of woodlands, pastures, ponds and steep hills, including '' Aborrebjerg'' which, with a height of 142 m, is one of the highest points in Denmark. The cliffs and adjacent park are now protected as a nature reserve. Møns Klint receives around 250,000 visitors a year. There are clearly marked paths for walkers, riders and cyclists. The path along the cliff tops leads to steps down to the shore in several locations. On 29 May 2007, close to the cliff tops, the GeoCenter Møns Klint was opened by Queen Margrethe. Stege, Denmark
Stege is the largest town on the island of Møn in south-eastern Denmark. In January 2025, its population was 3,765. Stege is now part of Vordingborg Municipality and belongs to Region Zealand. Once a prosperous herring fishing port, tourism is now important to the local economy. Location Stege is near the centre of the island at the mouth of Stege Nor, a lake which connects directly to the sea at the town. The mouth of the lake is now spanned by a bridge. Etymology Stege originated as a small fishing village called Dybsbroen, on the coast just north of the eastern end of the bridge, along the street now known as Dybsbrostræde. The current name may derive from ''Stickae'' or ''Stike'', which were wooden poles rammed into the sea inlet as a further defence against raiders. Grønsund
Grønsund is a strait in Denmark separating the island Falster from the smaller islands of Møn and Bogø. Grønsund Færgegård, Grønsund is also the name of a locality on the northeast coast of Falster from where the ferries to Møn used to operate. Grønsund Færgegård, Grønsund Ferry House was built in 1731 and listed in the Listed buildings in Guldborgsund Municipality, Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1950. Geography Grønsund's maximum depth is at approx. 20 metres and the width is between 1 - 4 km. Storstrømmen channel is situated to the west and Stege Bugt lies to the north between Zealand (Denmark), Zealand and Møn. Queen Alexandrine Bridge
The Queen Alexandrine bridge ( Danish, ''Dronning Alexandrines Bro'') is a road arch bridge that crosses Ulv Sund between the islands of Zealand and Møn in Denmark. History The bridge is named after Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. It was the main road connection between the islands of Zealand and Møn until the Farø Bridges were opened in 1985, which now provide a road link to the western end of Møn. Construction commenced 1939 and the bridge was opened on 30 May 1943. It is of steel arched construction, having 10 piers in the sea from which the arches spring. The designer of the bridge is Anker Engelund (1889–1961). He was a civil engineer, professor and rector of the Copenhagen Polytechnic educational institution from 1941 to 1959. Nyord
Nyord () is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, southeast of Zealand, just north of Møn island. Nyord covers an area of approximately 5 km², although only 1.2 km² is cultivatable moraine, while the remaining 4 km² is salt-meadow which is used for summer grazing, but is flooded during the winter. The island is reached by a narrow bridge from the larger island of Møn. The bridge was constructed in 1968 and replaced the post boat ''Røret'' which had been in service since 1902. The boat was not large enough for animals such as cattle or horses, which had to swim alongside the boat. Bogø
Bogø () is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, just west of Møn. The population is 1,183 (1 January 2024) with 930 living in the only town on the island, ''Bogø By''. The island is approximately 7 km long by 3 km wide at the largest points, with a total area of 13 km2. The highest point of the island is 32 metres above sea level. To the west of Bogø is a smaller island, Farø, which carries the E47/ E55 motorway from Copenhagen to the major islands of Lolland and Falster. The routes continue via ferry to Germany. Bogø is connected by causeways to both Farø and Møn, and carries one of the two main routes for vehicles travelling to Møn. It is part of Vordingborg Municipality. Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that is enclosed by the countries of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and the North European Plain, North and Central European Plain regions. Vordingborg Municipality
Vordingborg Municipality (, ) is a '' kommune'' in the Sjælland Region, which is on the southeast coast of the island of Zealand in south Denmark. It was established in 2007. The municipality covers an area of 621 km2. It has a total population of 45,057 (2025).
