Metapán is a city and municipality in the Santa Ana department of El Salvador. Metapán is situated in the northern part of the department, bordering Honduras and Guatemala. It is the second largest city in the department after Santa Ana and is divided between 29 ''cantones''. Geography The city of Metapán, next to the San Jose River, lies at 470 meters above sea level. It is located 46 kilometers north of Santa Ana city, connected via a paved highway. The municipality extends beyond the city and into the country surrounding the city. The major Hydroelectric Power station at the Guajoyo river is located in Metapán. The eastern side of Lake Güija is located in the municipality. Narciso Orellana
Narciso Oswaldo Orellana Guzmán (born 28 January 1995), commonly known as Chicho, is a Salvadoran professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Primera División club Alianza and the El Salvador national team. Debuting for Titán in 2010, Orellana quickly became a star of the club. He would eventually join Isidro Metapán in 2013, where he won three consecutive league titles in a row. Since joining Alianza in 2017, Orellana has won eight league titles, as well as making over 200 appearances and scoring 10 goals for the club. Orellana made his senior debut for El Salvador in August 2014 after previously being capped by El Salvador youth teams at under-20, under-21, and under-23 levels. The Primera División de Fútbol Profesional de El Salvador (First Division of Professional Football of El Salvador), more commonly known as La Liga Mayor or La Primera, also known as Liga Pepsi for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football, football league in El Salvador. It was established in 1947, and in 2011 had 10 clubs. Initially the league was run as a year-long tournament, but since 1998 there are two tournaments each year, much like in many other football leagues in the Americas. The Segunda División de El Salvador (Second Division of El Salvador) is the second tier of football in El Salvador governed by the Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol (FESFUT). Teams contest to promote to the Primera División. The winning sides of the annual Apertura and Clausura contest each other, the winner directly promotes to Primera División. Lake Güija
Lake Güija is a lake in Central America. The lake is situated on the border between Guatemala and El Salvador and has an area of , of which approximately lies in El Salvador. Description The lake is of volcanic origin and was formed by a large basaltic lava flow from Volcán de San Diego in the San Diego volcanic field which blocked the Güija depression's original drainage. Lake Güija is fed by the Ostúa, Angue and Cusmapa rivers and is drained on its southeastern side by the río Desagüe, a tributary of the río Lempa. The lake is surrounded by the volcanic cones of the Mita, San Diego and Cerro Quemado.
