La Cañada Flintridge, California
La Cañada Flintridge, commonly known as just , is a city in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Located in the Crescenta Valley, in the western edge of the San Gabriel Valley, it is the location of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Before the city's incorporation on November 30, 1976, it consisted of the two distinct communities of La Cañada and Flintridge. The population was 20,573 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History The Tongva were first to settle in the area. Local villages included Tejungna (now the city of Tujunga, west of La Cañada) and Hahamongna (now Hahamongna Watershed Park, east of La Cañada), connected by a network of trails, which passed through what is now La Cañada Flintridge. Mission San Gabriel Arcángel
Mission San Gabriel Arcángel () is a Californian mission and historic landmark in San Gabriel, California. It was founded by the Spanish Empire on the Nativity of Mary September 8, 1771, as the fourth of what would become twenty-one Spanish missions in California. San Gabriel Arcángel was named after the Archangel Gabriel and often referred to as the "Godmother of the Pueblo of Los Angeles." The mission was designed by Antonio Cruzado, who gave the building its capped buttresses and the tall narrow windows, which are unique among the missions of the California chain. It was completed in 1805. A large stone cross stands in the center of the ''Campo Santo'' (cemetery), first consecrated in 1778 and then again on January 29, 1939. The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California, lying between the San Gabriel Mountains on the northeast and the Verdugo Mountains and San Rafael Hills on the southwest. The Verdugo Mountains, also known as the Verdugo Hills or simply The Verdugos, are a small, rugged mountain range of the Transverse Ranges system in Los Angeles County, California.
