The Isaac Region is a local government area located in Central Queensland, Queensland, Australia created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. In the , the Isaac Region had a population of 22,046 people. History Yagalingu is an Australian Aboriginal language of Central Queensland. Its traditional language region was within the local government area of Isaac Region, from the headwaters of the Belyando River south to Avoca, north to Laglan, west to the Great Dividing Range, and east and south to Drummond Range. Prior to 2008, the Isaac Region was an entire area of three previous and distinct local government areas: * the Shire of Belyando; * the Shire of Broadsound (taking its name from Broad Sound); * and the Shire of Nebo. Yagalingu Language
Bidjara, also spelt Bidyara or Pitjara, is an Australian Aboriginal language. In 1980, it was spoken by 20 elders in Queensland between the towns of Tambo and Augathella, or the Warrego and Langlo Rivers. There are many dialects of the language, including Gayiri and Gunggari. Some of them are being revitalised and are being taught in local schools in the region. The various dialects are not all confirmed or agreed by linguists. Dialects The Bidjara language included numerous dialects, of which Bidjara proper was the last to go extinct. One of these was Gunya (Kunja), spoken over 31,200 km2 (12,188 sq mi), from the Warrego River near Cunnamulla north to Augathella and Burenda Station; west to between Cooladdi and Cheepie; east to Morven and Angellala Creek; at Charle-ville. Isaac River
The Isaac River is a river and anabranch in Central Queensland, Australia. Course The headwaters of the river rise south east of Glenden, Queensland and flow in a generally southern direction, crossing the Peak Downs Highway near Moranbah. It continues past Iffley and veers eastward at Leichhardt Downs forming a series of braided channels, and veers south east again and flows past the eastern edge of Junee State Forest and then discharges into the MacKenzie River of which it is a tributary. Ward (politics)
A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. Shire Of Nebo
The Shire of Nebo was a local government area in Central Queensland, Queensland, Australia, about south-west of the regional city of Mackay. The Shire, administered from the town of Nebo, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1883 until 2008, when it was amalgamated with the Shires of Belyando and Broadsound to form the Isaac Region. Traditionally a rural area, producing beef, sugar, sorghum and other grains, coal mining is now a major employer, with eight coal mines in the area and capacity for a further five. Broad Sound (Queensland)
Broad Sound is a large bay on the east coast of Australia, in the state of Queensland, northwest of the state capital, Brisbane. It is about long and across at its widest point. The Torilla Peninsula forms the eastern side of the bay; Shoalwater Bay is on the other side of the peninsula. The sound has a large tidal range of about . This is the largest variance on the eastern Australia coastline. History British explorer James Cook, in HMS ''Endeavour'', sighted the bay in May 1770, naming it for its size. The next European navigator in the area was Matthew Flinders in HMS ''Investigator'' in 1802.
