Indic Computing
Indic Computing means "computing in Brahmic family, Indic", i.e., Indian Scripts and Languages. It involves developing software in Languages of India, Indic Scripts/languages, Input methods, Language localization, Localization of computer applications, web development, Database management system, Database Management, Spell checkers, Speech to Text and Text to Speech applications and OCR in Indian Languages, OCR in Indian languages.Unicode standardversion 15.0 specifies codes for 9 Indic scripts iChapter 12titled "South and Central Asia-I, Official Scripts of India". Brahmic Family
The Brahmic scripts, also known as Indic scripts, are a family of abugida writing systems. They are used throughout South Asia, Southeast Asia and parts of East Asia. Oriya Script
The Odia script (, also ) is a Brahmic script used to write the Odia language. To a lesser extent, it is also used to write Sanskrit and other regional languages. It is one of the official scripts of the Indian Republic. The script has developed over more than 1000 years from a variant of Siddhaṃ script which was used in Eastern India, where the characteristic top line transformed into a distinct round umbrella shape due to the influence of palm leaf manuscripts and also being influenced by the neighbouring scripts from the Western and Southern regions. Centre For Development Of Advanced Computing
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is an Indian autonomous scientific society, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. History C-DAC was created in November 1987, initially as the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing Technology (C-DACT). In 1988, the US Government refused to sell India a Cray supercomputer due to concerns about India using it to develop nuclear weapons. In response India started development of its own supercomputer, and C-DACT was created as part of this programme. Dr Vijay Bhatkar was hired as the director of C-DACT. The project was given an initial run of three years and an initial funding of 30,00,00,000, the cost of a Cray supercomputer. A prototype computer was benchmarked at the 1990 Zurich Super-computing Show. InScript Keyboard
InScript (short for Indic Script) is the decreed standard keyboard layout for Indian scripts using a standard 104- or 105-key layout. This keyboard layout was standardised by the Government of India for inputting text in languages of India written in Brahmic scripts, as well as the Santali language, written in the non-Brahmic Ol Chiki script. It was developed by the Indian Government and supported by several public and private organisations. This is the standard keyboard for 12 Indian scripts including Devanagari, Bengali, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Tamil and Telugu, among others. The InScript layout is built into most of the major operating systems including Windows (2000 and later), and most Linux and Mac OS systems.
