Herning Municipality
Herning Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in western Denmark. The municipality covers an area of and has a population of 90,006 (1 January 2025). Its mayor is Dorte West, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the Town of Herning. History On 1 January 2007, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), Herning municipality was merged with former Aulum-Haderup, Trehøje, and Aaskov municipalities to form the new Herning municipality. Municipalities Of Denmark
Denmark is divided into five regions of Denmark, regions, which contain 98 municipalities (, ; , ). 2005 Danish Local Elections
Local elections were held in Denmark on 15 November 2005. 2522 municipal council members were elected in Denmark's 98 municipalities and 205 regional council members in the five regions. Most of these were newly formed municipalities, namely 66 municipalities, that would only begin working from Monday 1 January 2007, as would the newly formed regions, and one municipality, Ærø, which was also part of the reform, which was allowed by the government to commence work for the first time already Sunday 1 January 2006. Danish People's Party
The Danish People's Party (DPP; , DF) is a nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Denmark. It was formed in 1995 by former members of the Progress Party (FrP). The party saw a period of significant growth after its founding and lent its support to the – Conservative People's Party coalition government that ruled from the general election of 2001 until the 2011 election defeat. While not part of the cabinet, DF cooperated closely with the governing coalition on most issues and received support for key political stances in return, to the point that the government was commonly referred to as the "VKO-government" (O being DF's election symbol). Sønder Felding
Sønder Felding often abbreviated to Sdr. Felding, is a town in Herning Municipality, Central Denmark Region, Denmark. Located about east of Skjern, the town has a population of 1,392 (1 January 2025). Etymology The oldest known source for the name Felding is from around 1325, in which the form ''Fillingh'' appears. In later evidence, the form Fillingh (1388) and other forms such as ''Fyllyng'' (1425) and ''Felling'' (1580) are found. The name is composed of the word ''fjeld'', which in Old Danish has the meaning "outfield, uncultivated area", and the suffix ''-ing'', which in place names indicates that it is a place or area. The name thus refers to a place or area in the outfield. The leading ''Sønder'' has been used since the 1680s to separate the name from Nørre Felding near Holstebro.
